The biggest lesson I learned this year: Never expect people to love you, consider you or show up for you the same way you do for them. You can be thoughtful because that’s who you are. You can remember the little things, check in, make sacrifices, show up when they need you and genuinely care about how they feel. But not everyone loves with the same depth. Not everyone notices the things you notice. Not everyone thinks about you the way you think about them. And expecting them to can leave you constantly disappointed. Give because it’s who you are, not because you expect the same in return. Pay attention to what people naturally give back and let that show you where to place your heart.
