@OutOfTheVines Makes arbitration players more valuable and less likely to be dealt away. Incentivizes original team to pay their homegrown players, as they theoretically can realize more value from it than other teams. Players wouldn’t fight it, as it would actually drive the functioning tax up
@OutOfTheVines Idea for the next CBA - or some variation… team that re-signs/extends a player coming off arbitration is given an exception to their tax threshold equal to 20% of the extension’s AAV.
@WatchMarquee@brendan_cubs I think this was the moment the mechanics went. Not being able to extend that right knee with force leads to a weak front side. This will sap power and cause flying open, which can lead to roll over grounders. He was slumping a bit before this, but zero power since.
@DOM_Frederic Shaw functionally becomes super utility. Can play 3B/2B/SS. Suarez can play 1B vs tough Lefties and DH to allow Seiya to spell all OF positions. Shaw would still start 4/6 games a week. Becomes a contact-oriented speed guy off the bench on days he sits… Ideal scenario.
@BleacherNation Highly unlikely, but…
Sign Bregman (27.5)
Trade Nico (11.7) to Seattle for Muñoz+ (1.9)
Bregman/Nico similar projections, though Bregman more bat-centric. Lands stud closer. Total cost (17.7)
Were willing to go to 16.5AAV on Scott. So, costs similar (excluding comp pick).
@thekapman Firmly believe the Sosa thing is mostly motivated by Ricketts not wanting to get booed at Cubs Con. Will enter with Sosa to rousing cheers, knowing if he entered alone he’d be booed mercilessly.
@thekapman Can’t wait to hear his typical condescending bs about how fans don’t understand how expensive running a team is and how Jed gets a budget that he can do whenever he wants with it. Ask him where the wheelbarrows of cash are.
@670TheScore@MLBBruceLevine Sign Bregman
Trade Nico to SEA for Muñoz
Trade Assad & Caisse+ for Cease
Adds middle of the order bat, top of the rotation starter, and closer… all while staying under the cap.
