@ThemeParkDuo for me, and this isn't meant to be argumentative, I view Nikki as someone who requires context. I'd be chill with an Obsession house (like Exorcist had) where you clearly understand her situation. When she becomes an icon by herself, you lose that context.
@chloessoftlife@DiscussingFilm I don't blame like, a Universal actor for being in HP products because they don't have the pull to say "I'm not going to do this." A mainstream actor voicing in the audiobook, or participating in the reboot... they're getting more exposure but at what cost?
@chloessoftlife@DiscussingFilm I don't think there's any harm in enjoying HP still, but it depends on how much money you still put into the franchise. If you're out there buying merch/purchasing physical media or books, you're directly putting money into the anti-trans movement (by Rowling's admission).
ok but this is exactly why the Regan argument doesn't work. Regan has context all around her, because she's portrayed inside a house that retells the events of a film. Nikki out in the open is a different situation entirely.
Freaky Nikki having a “booth at HHN” with themed food like a cat sandwich and items/moments associated with the film so that she HAS CONTEXT is not the same as a roaming character. I just want to make sure we’re both clear on what Curry Barker was implying in that interview?
@TrashedAtdisney@NickChaps96 It's no different than any other interruption to our time and energy, and often many of us have been burned by those who practice Christianity incorrectly. You need to understand that the church loses people for a reason.
@TrashedAtdisney@NickChaps96 We just don't want it forced on us. Nobody goes to Disney to be preached to, we've paid hundreds/thousands to have fun with our families and engage with movies we enjoy. We don't need you to tell us about Jesus.
Carrie had agency- in fact, she found agency. She made the choice to enact revenge.
Regan was only presented inside her own story, never as a monster that targets the general public.
Nikki is being portrayed as a horny threat to society. It’s not even correct inside canon
I’m thoroughly convinced the pro-Nikki at HHN crowd is regurgitating the same points they saw another person make minutes before. Regardless of how you feel about her inclusion, y’all are parrots. It makes me question your ability to think for yourselves.
It’s a consistent combination of “what about Regan from The Exorcist/Carrie?” or “victims have always been portrayed” or even “it’s a horror movie it’s not that deep.”
the movie’s about a girl who gets raped for months on end bc her ability to make decisions was ripped away
@ShawnNOrlando I like how the movie itself is a litmus test for understanding women and this is now a litmus test for understanding the movie
You’re 100% correct btw
@harrieforeverp@ShawnNOrlando This is such an empty argument. Regan was only represented in a retelling of The Exorcist. Nikki is being presented as “the monster from Obession”
@MaryJaneWAPson I have to assume the leak was that the villain was being played by a redhead currently leading a Broadway show. Back then Snook and Sink would have both been candidates for that clue.
@boomytoons85@FreddyInSpace@TheEricGoldman Super important piece of context about the movie is that a girl is essentially possessed into participating in a sexual relationship. She kills people in this form, don’t get me wrong, but definitely not a stretch to be like “hey wait a sec”
@FreddyInSpace@TheEricGoldman Tbf it’s a movie about a rape victim, I don’t think it’s an irrational thought at all that her existing outside the context of a house and preying on the general public wasn’t really thought out well
