The fact that Socrates was wrongly punished by death as many would agree, is what makes his story carry on through generations. Socrates was punished for having an inquiring mind that set him apart from others, which makes his story one in which all can learn from. #I2E21
When Socrates states that his penalty should be living amongst the greatest olympians, funded by the city, this is so ironic, because out of all of the greatest Greek names, Socrates is one of the few, who’s names have carried on throughout over a thousand years. #I2E21
Those who chose to acknowledge their own ignorances and combat them through the process of learning realize how wrong they were beforehand. I believe these people tend to be those who are progressive or those demanding change. #I2E21
The idea of returning to the cave after going out and realizing one’s own ignorance is so relevant to human life. So many problems are never solved because humans prefer to stay surrounded in their own ignorances. #I2E21
I find it very interesting with regard to the relationship between Intellectual and Deliberative Excellence. It appears that each cannot exist without the other. As such, one could never have the ability to act if the established premises for such were never discovered. #I2E21
@Jiazhen_Lu3 I'd say yes, a person can be brave if they are afraid. The idea of overcoming a fear alone can constitute bravery. Also, notifying others of one's particular fears can also be brave, as it can possibly expose weaknesses. #I2E21
For example, many women take on "masculine" approaches such as using aggressive argument tactics, while so many men take on "feminine" approaches by using caring and considerate argument tactics. #I2E21
I disagree with Kohlberg when he states that gender plays a role in viewing morality. There are numerous examples of when the so called "roles" or typical behavior of men and women are switched. Especially in today's age. #I2E21
Personal relationships help prevent more problems from occurring. Such as if the husband were to be arrested and thus never be able to help the wife again. #I2E21
In the Heinz's Dilemma, it doesn't make sense how Kohlberg says Jake is more morally developed than Amy. I believe it should be the opposite as we should promote those who seek personal relationships in problem solving, rather than those who have one simple goal. #I2E21
Just because one has an autonomy, and an autonomous rational nature is an objective end with absolute worth, does it mean that the choices we make are actually correct? #I2E21
@LeahStavrides I would agree with this and state this is where Kant goes wrong. By testing animals to benefit humans we are simply using the animals as a means to our ends, and completely disregarding the inclinations/desires for which the animals do in fact have, to avoid pain. #I2E21
By using someone as merely a means to your own ends, you are treating them as anything but another rational being for your own sake. I would agree with Kant much more if the same could be applied to animals as well. #I2E21
I feel Kant is correct only when he considers the relationships between humans and other humans. That is he is able to justify how stealing is wrong, as he argues that it is merely using someone as a means to your ends. #I2E21
By having the ability to suffer, I feel any form of life therefore has a desire/inclination to escape such suffering. All animals desire to escape pain, therefore all animals cannot be considered simply as only a means to the ends of humans. #I2E21
I disagree with how Kant suggests that animals are only means to the ends of humans. That is to say that animals have no desire to live or reproduce. As such
I feel it is necessary to consider Peter Singer with how animals can suffer. #I2E21
@juliearonsky I agree with this quote as in many cases the best and fastest way to protect national security involves the restricting of rights. For example after 9/11, we basically have lost our rights to privacy in airports, but for the better. #I2E21
@JonahMathew11 I would say anything the is a clear and present danger or threat to the ability for one to live a structured life. This could be a wide range of acts that could cause one to lose a sense of pursuing a structured life. #I2E21
