The 4th Quo Vadis AI Conference was held last week in Athens, bringing together distinguished academics, key policymakers and leading industry experts under the theme, “From Regulation to Practice: A Holistic Look at the Future with AI.”
Our Senior Partner, Alexia Kountouri, participated in this important forum on the future of artificial intelligence at a time when governments, businesses, and organisations are facing new challenges in compliance, governance, and strategic adaptation.
This year’s discussions focused on implementing the AI Act through a holistic lens, the transformation of the labour market, the practical use of artificial intelligence in business, emerging cybersecurity threats, and the constitutional and legal challenges of AI.

The European Competition Day, organised by the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026, highlighted the challenges faced by competition authorities in an ever-evolving economic and digital environment and the main developments in the fields of abuse of dominance and merger control. The conference also featured a discussion of how effective enforcement of competition law contributes to the Single Market integration.
Our Partner, Nicolas Constantinides, and our Associate, Christiana Argyrou, had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the developments shaping the European regulatory framework, further strengthening our team’s expertise in key areas of the law.

Meet our Senior Associate Ioanna Antoniou.
Ioanna was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2012 and joined the firm in 2017 as an Associate in the Corporate and Commercial Department, serving as legal counsel to both international and local clients.
Ioanna focuses on corporate, commercial, real estate and immigration law. She advises high-net-worth clients on financial services, private investments, property acquisitions and handles corporate immigration matters. She also advises on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, AML compliance matters, and has expertise in the formation and ongoing compliance of Alternative Investment Fund (AIFs), Cyprus Investment Firms (CIFs) and other entities operating within the financial services sector.

Meet our Senior Associate Glykeria Andreou.
Glykeria has wide ranging experience in general Corporate and Commercial law matters, advising on domestic and cross-border transactions. Her experience includes the provision of legal advice on corporate M&A transactions, corporate and debt restructuring, asset purchase acquisitions, joint venture arrangements for both local and international clients. She has been actively involved in complex and large-scale commercial arrangements starting from their initial set-up and negotiation stage to their completion and implementation.
Glykeria has extensive expertise in financial services which includes matters such as the formation, licensing and ongoing compliance of financial institutions and investment firms in Cyprus as well as other entities and activities in the sphere of financial services with particular focus on Alternative Investment Funds and Alternative Investment Funds Managers. Glykeria is a member of the Legal and Regulatory Committee of the Cyprus Funds Association and a member of the Financial Services Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association.

As of 2 April 2026, Cyprus has introduced its new FDI screening framework - and it is now in force.
With FDI Law 194(I)/2025 and the latest guidance from the Ministry of Finance, certain foreign investments may require prior approval before they can proceed.
The new regime focuses on:
-investments by non-EU investors
-acquisitions of 25%+ or decisive influence
-transactions in sectors of strategic importance
This marks an important development for deal structuring and transaction timelines in Cyprus.

Meet our Partner Georgios Hadjigiorgis
Giorgos was admitted to the Cyprus Bar in May 2014. He joined the firm in March 2016 and is currently a Partner and a member of the Litigation Department.
Giorgos is an expert in civil and public law, particularly administrative law and public procurement law. He undertakes disputes concerning banking law, contract law, employment law, tenancy law, administrative law and general compensation claims. He drafts legal opinions on these matters and represents clients before all instances of the Cyprus courts.
With a particular focus on public procurement, Giorgos provides comprehensive legal support, acting for both contracting authorities and prominent economic operators across sectors such as construction, technology and healthcare, in all aspects of tender procedures relating to major and high-value projects, and representing clients frequently before the Tenders Review Authority and the courts of the Republic of Cyprus.

Within the framework of protecting the family life of EU citizens and their right to exercise freedom of movement, in its judgement in Case C-713/23, the Court Of Justice of the European Union ruled that EU Member States must recognize same-sex marriages validly concluded in another EU country, even if their national law does not allow them.

Meet our Partner Marios Nicolaou.
Marios was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2012. He is a Partner at the Firm having joined as an Associate in September 2015.
He has developed significant expertise in civil law with a strong commercial focus, consistently representing the firm’s clients in complex commercial litigation proceedings. Marios also plays a leading role in the firm’s arbitration and mediation practice.
Marios is eligible to be registered as a Fellow Arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has a proven track record in arbitration having acted as counsel in several high-profile arbitration proceedings. In addition, he is an accredited Certified Mediator, rendering him an all-round dispute resolution professional.
Marios holds an LLB in Law with Politics from the University of Sussex (2010), an LLM in International Law from the University of Surrey (2011), and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Dispute Resolution (Arbitration) from Queen Mary College, University of London (2013).
His practice covers commercial and corporate law, banking, construction, and insolvency, advising both domestic and international clients on high-value, high-stakes matters.
