We have a problem with natural monopolies and oligopolies in Australia. Is it feasible to levy an additional tax on companies who control more than a given % of their market? and has this ever been done before in other places?

@davidmcw just listened to your opioids episode; I’m curious whether weed might be a substitute for opioids (rather than a gateway) in states where it is legal. I recall a study mentioned in the economist some years ago found meth use was higher in counties where booze was banned

I have a bone to pick with whoever decided to use the Greek “hyper” and “hypo” prefixes for high- and low- blood pressure, blood sugar, temperature etc. They sound almost identical! The Latin equivalents would be “super” and “infra”; much easier to tell apart over the phone!

@synapse101 Our youngest went through a stage when she was about 2 when she would not sleep until she had run about 2kms down to a skate park, then slid down the ramps there for a while and finally been carried home (usually at about 11pm by this stage)
