I have written quite a bit on this topic. But one thing that particularly bothers me is the way some white writers who try to argue this point assume the reason a book of theirs didn’t get published is because they wrote FNPOC characters https://t.co/nrL0m8uDJf
It is similar to white nationalist propaganda that the shifts the blame for socioeconomic hardship onto migrants, with racist rhetoric like “they’re taking your jobs”
Sometimes writers who take this position also argue: what if my/a book about a marginalised character is brilliant but won’t be published? This also assumes the writer will write a great book - which suggests a certain level of privilege.
I am baffled by the fact that an arts festival would not only choose to go ahead during a pandemic without having a mask mandate in place, but would refuse a request to distribute face-masks along with encouragement to wear them at the entry to a session on disability.
