#Breaking: A circuit court judge rules in favor of the Maryland National Capital Park Planning Commission and grants a temporary restraining order preventing the Prince George's County Council from taking $39 million from MNCPP’s budget to balance the county’s budget.
#Breaking: Governor Wes Moore just announced there are plans to come back for a special session of the Maryland General Assembly to address redistricting Maryland’s congressional map this summer. He says he's encouraged that the Senate President has moved on this issue.
#Breaking: The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is preparing legal action against Prince George’s County in a rift over millions of dollars the commission says county officials have unlawfully transferred during its annual budget process.
In a draft complaint obtained by the I-Team on Wednesday, confirmed by two sources familiar with the internal discussions of the commission, the commission argues that transfer violates Maryland land use laws and constitutes an “unlawful taxation on Prince George’s residents.”
At issue is $39.3 million the Prince George’s County Council voted last month to transfer from the commission to fund a variety of county projects in the upcoming budget year.
Barnes is also a former Maryland State Delegate. The attorney representing the planning board’s general counsel in this matter could not be immediately reached for comment. @nbcwashington
#Breaking: Darryl Barnes, confirms to me that he's resigned as chair of the Prince George’s County Planning Board. A complaint first reported by the Baltimore Banner and reviewed by #News4 detailed allegations of retaliation, legal, and ethics violations against Barnes.
The planning board’s general counsel made the accusations in a confidential document shared with News4 by a source with knowledge of one of the ongoing investigations into the claims. Barnes denies wrongdoing. County Executive Aisha Braveboy appointed Barnes in July 2025.
