This is so important. The registration cost of some of these conferences also keeps students and recent grads from important networking and career opportunities, as well.
Returning to Twitter/X to echo this: I have seen @latimes journalists impacted by this whose bylines I follow, whose videos I’ve shared, whose work I’ve admired for years. As someone impacted by layoffs last year, I’m happy to be a resource for the journalists affected.

@weischoice Thank you for this! The HOURS I’ve spent doing unpaid labor for interviews have been completely unreasonable. I once did a ~5 hour edit test for a reputable magazine and then got completely ghosted 💀
