As a principal, as a school leader, it doesn’t matter what your personal mission statement says on your wall. People know what your mission statement is everyday by seeing how you act, how you choose to spend your time & how you engage with those around you. - @steelethoughts
I love the administrators who are showing their teachers support, trust, and autonomy to do what they think is needed and best for their kids. In fact, thats how education should function all the time.
If you won’t take coaching from anyone, you can’t improve. Also, if you take coaching from everyone, you won’t improve.
Moral: Nothing worth having comes simply. Be thoughtful. Be persistent. Be a learner.

I love to hear from Admin who are listening to teachers’ and parents’ concerns and frustrations and making adjustments to overwhelming expectations. If leaders aren’t listening, they aren’t leading.
Effective administrators check on their staff more frequently and treat their staff better than they expect them to treat students and parents. They lead by example.
A couple of thoughts:
1. Traditional practice does not equal bad practice. We can't use the terms interchangeably.
2. Innovation is ONLY innovation if it leads to something better. "New" is not enough.

Today I was in an administrator Zoom call. The facilitator began by highlighting teachers from each school who are putting themselves out there for their students. Simple. So powerful. Love the focus. #WeAreChappaqua
1.) We are creating the future. What are we creating? I want to be asking this every day. If right now, things are falling apart, we have a tremendous opportunity to create some new ways of being, schooling, teaching, power dynamics, leadership, courage.
As a teacher if you’ve got challenging students, first thing you need to do is start liking them. When you start liking them it will transform your attitude towards them. You will interact with them differently. - @steelethoughts#wholechildsummit https://t.co/4WyiigPWMd

If you ask 100 teachers what they look for in an administrator, I suspect 99 of them would say ‘We want the administrator to have our back.’ - @steelethoughts#wholechildsummit https://t.co/1WJlHwK75X
Teachers, do what you can and know it’s enough. You’re not in competition with anyone else. Parents do what you can and know it’s enough. You’re not in competition with anyone else either.
What I tell young administrators is that as an administrator you will be defined by your ability to support your teachers and staff…They will then take care of the kids. - @steelethoughts#wholechildsummit https://t.co/1WJlHwK75X
