🟠 ARK : j'ai testé le Layer 2 Bitcoin qui vient de passer en mainnet

Le 9 juin, Second a lancé Bark sur le mainnet Bitcoin. Pas une beta ou un testnet. Le vrai réseau, avec de vrais sats.

Pendant que tout le monde regarde les ETF et le prix, une poignée de devs (dont plusieurs ex-Blockstream) vient peut-être de résoudre le problème que Lightning traîne depuis 10 ans : la self-custody pour tous, sans gestion de canaux, sans liquidité entrante, sans nœud à babysitter.

J'ai testé. Voici ce qu'il faut comprendre. 🧵

Le protocole 🛟

Ark, proposé en 2023 par Burak, un dev turc. Le nom vient de l'Arche de Noé : un canot de sauvetage pour échapper aux boîtes de chain analysis et aux custodians.

Le principe : des utilisateurs partagent des UTXOs on-chain via des arbres de transactions pré-signées off-chain. Les frais sont mutualisés, la self-custody est préservée. Tu reçois des sats sans ouvrir de canal, sans liquidité entrante, sans setup.

La contrepartie, parce qu'il y en a toujours une : le protocole repose sur un serveur coordinateur.
Mais et c'est toute la différence avec un custodian, tu peux sortir unilatéralement, sans permission.
Le serveur ne peut pas voler tes fonds. Il faut juste te reconnecter environ une fois par mois pour rafraîchir tes VTXOs.

Deux implémentations existent, par deux équipes distinctes : Arkade (Ark Labs, mainnet beta depuis octobre 2025) et Bark (Second, mainnet depuis lundi). Burak ne travaille sur aucune des deux.
L'écosystème se construit tout seul. Bon signe.

Bark, le lancement 🐕

@secondhq , c'est 11 personnes, 5,1 M$ levés, et une équipe qui connaît le sujet : Steven Roose (CEO) et Erik De Smedt (CTO) viennent de Blockstream.

Leur pari : pas de wallet vedette, mais une fondation pour les développeurs. Au lancement : un SDK Rust avec bindings Kotlin, Swift, React Native, Flutter, Go, Python et WASM, un daemon serveur (Barkd), un plugin BTCPay Server pour les marchands, paiements Lightning self-custodial sans canaux à gérer.

Et pour les souverainistes : Bark Wallet est disponible directement sur le store @umbrel . Ark, Lightning et on-chain dans la même app, sur ta propre machine. Je l'ai installé sur mon nœud : ça tourne, c'est propre, et tu jongles entre les trois rails sans friction.

Noah, le wallet mobile 📱

@NoahWalletHQ (l'équipe derrière Blixt), c'est le wallet Ark complet : frontend React Native, backend Rust, open source. Mainnet-ready depuis lundi.

Ce qui m'a frappé en le testant : il gère aussi Lightning et on-chain. Tu reçois sur Ark, tu payes une facture Lightning, tu sors on-chain si besoin, le tout dans une interface qui ressemble à un wallet normal, pas à un cockpit d'avion.
L'expérience que Lightning self-custodial promettait depuis des années, sans la douleur des canaux.

Ce que ça change 🗼

Lightning a prouvé que Bitcoin pouvait scaler. Mais la complexité a poussé la majorité vers les wallets custodial (Wallet of Satoshi et compagnie). La self-custody était devenue un sport d'élite.

Ark attaque exactement ce point : l'expérience d'un wallet custodial, les garanties d'un wallet souverain.

Reste à voir si les opérateurs de serveurs tiendront la charge, si les frais resteront bas, et si le rafraîchissement mensuel ne perdra pas les distraits.

L'arche est à l'eau. À toi de voir si tu montes à bord ou si tu restes sur le quai à regarder le déluge. 🌧️

And that’s not all—you can pay with Bitcoin Lightning literally everywhere in Poland!

No KYC, no registration, via the Nostr provider.

I love it when I come across new technology that gives (European) bureaucrats the middle finger, especially in a situation where they want to spy on and regulate you across the board.

Most recently, I was this excited about a non-KYC project for exchanging stablecoins for fiat via https://t.co/5Bdka5KM6w, which bypasses the dystopian centralized exchanges that have to do massive reporting due to EU regulations like DAC-8 and MiCA.

In the case of BITBLIK, just like with https://t.co/eOBJxn7Yu6, you’re doing decentralized P2P trading, so I assume no regulation applies to you (it doesn’t go through any intermediary).

Today I came across a great Polish app called BITBLIK https://t.co/nUSKPCNERY, which connects the widely available BLIK system in Poland with Bitcoin Lightning.

With Bitcoin Lightning, you can pay anonymously anywhere in Poland, withdraw cash anonymously from an ATM (which I just did!), or make online payments on Polish websites.

BLIK is widely accepted (it’s supported by a network of over 13,000 ATMs across Poland and hundreds of thousands of merchants; according to AI, there are 87,000 of them).

Install the https://t.co/nUSKPCNERY app, launch it��no registration required, no KYC—enter an offer for how much you want to pay in PLN or how much you want to withdraw from an ATM.

You’ll make a Bitcoin Lightning payment, which will be locked.

Wait a minute or two until someone accepts your offer (the other party who has BLIK and wants Bitcoin Lightning).

As soon as they do, a BLIK code will appear.
It’s valid for about two minutes, so enter it at an ATM or at a terminal in a store or restaurant.

After a successful payment, you confirm that you used the BLIK code, and the Lightning payment is credited to the recipient.

Limits for BLIK payments vary by Polish ATM. ING Bank Śląski has the highest limit: 10,000 PLN per day (2,356 EUR), while mBank has a limit of 5,000 PLN per day (1,178 EUR). PKO BP allows BLIK transactions up to 1,500 PLN, but you can make up to 20,000 PLN (4,722 EUR) worth of transactions per day.

And of course, those limits apply to the merchant. When various merchants accept your Lightning payments, you effectively have no limits—you’re only limited by the counterparty’s liquidity.

BLIK is 100% open-source, so it can’t be banned!

You can fork it and use it within your own closed community.

Europa is a new decentralized VPN marketplace built on Nostr and paid exclusively with Bitcoin.

It launched this week from @callebtc, the developer behind the Cashu ecash protocol.

The concept is simple but the implications are significant. Instead of trusting a single VPN company with a global server fleet, one privacy policy, and one monthly subscription, Europa lets independent VPN operators list their servers on an open directory.

Each operator runs their own infrastructure in their own jurisdiction, writes their own no-log policy, and sets their own price. Users browse the directory, pick an operator, and pay them directly over Lightning or Cashu ecash. The marketplace never touches the money and takes no cut.

After payment, the operator delivers a standard WireGuard or OpenVPN config file. No proprietary app, no custom client. Users import it into the same open-source VPN software they would use anywhere else and connect. When the bundle runs out, the tunnel goes quiet. No auto-renewal, no card on file, no surprise charges.

The reputation system runs on Nostr. Instead of editorial ratings or paid placements, recommendations and complaints come from people in your social graph. Sign in with a Nostr identity and the directory weights endorsements from accounts you already follow. If Nostr is not your thing, ignore the feature entirely and start with the smallest bundle from an unfamiliar operator to limit your risk.

The entire protocol is built on public Nostr events. Operator listings, reputation data, and payment coordination all live on the Nostr network. The Europa website is just one viewer of that data, not the source. Other directories can exist. If Europa makes bad editorial choices, users can leave without losing access to the underlying marketplace. The protocol spec is CC0 (public domain) and the code is MIT licensed.

What makes this meaningful is the architecture. Traditional VPN providers consolidate trust into one company in one jurisdiction. If that company gets acquired, served with a warrant, or breached, every customer is exposed at once. Europa distributes that trust across independent operators. Users can spread their traffic across multiple operators they actually chose rather than trusting a single brand to make every decision for them.

Anyone with a server can become an operator. Anyone with a Lightning wallet can become a customer. No accounts required for either side.

Retail wants emotional confirmation.

Institutions want inventory.
