Faye cutting Sonko down to size?
Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has declined to sign electoral law amendments that paves the way for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to run in the 2029 presidential election, as signs of internal friction and dissension between the two leaders grow.
Last month, Senegal’s National Assembly, where the ruling PASTEF party holds a dominant majority under Sonko, overwhelmingly passed the bill, with measures seen as opening the door for Sonko to run.
Faye is asking the lawmakers to reconsider the bill.
Sonko, 51, was disqualified from the 2024 presidential race following a conviction for defaming a minister accused of embezzling public funds, which could also affect his eligibility in 2029.
@Iamhereforit1 Then the government should start thinking about children, and not about Daaraa. Because Daaraa are more about Parents and the Daaraa’s masters than they are about children.
I am a product of a daara, but I wouldn't send my children there.
