A guy who’s been trading over 3 decades said “What makes you think you will be in that tiny percentage who make it, when 90% of traders fail? What makes you different from them?”
Most people say because I want it so bad / prepared to work myself into the ground / quitting’s not an option etc etc.
I realised it’s because my entire life I have been preparing for this role.
I have spent my whole life since 11 being the odd one out, the outcast, the exception, the one in the corner of the room. Me…and then everyone else. Me and then the rest.
My brain always working differently than everyone else’s. Up to this point it always felt painful.
Now I understand. It was an audition.
An audition that has lasted many years.
The Universe was preparing me for this. Preparing me for where being the 1% is the best thing in the world
Trading is sooooo lonely. Fuck. The countless hours just spent backtesting or staring at charts on your own. Early mornings, late nights.
Staring at a computer screen so long is not good for the mind or spirit.
Every spare second devoted to something you care so much about; sacrificing virtually everything else in the beginning.
Hoping it will all be worth it. Constantly renewing your resolve and your faith in it all. Wondering at times if you are wasting your one precious life glued to a screen on your own despite knowing it’s the sacrifice that’s required.
No one to talk to when doubt creeps in and you start wondering what it’s all for. Family don’t know and won’t understand.
Only you and your little dream. Sometimes the mind just gets loud.
I’m lucky I have had a few people to talk to along the way since I started trading but they fade in and out and at the end of the day it’s just you and the charts. No one’s journey but yours.
I’m so grateful I found trading and I’ll never quit. Ever. I know it will get easier. The first few years you are just in that tight space and there s no shortcuts.
This is the price of admission.
Winston Churchill said ‘If you’re going through hell keep going”. I wouldn’t call it hell, but it feels heavy sometimes.
Esp as a female; you often get ignored if you try and contribute in groups or worse accused of being a bot if you are simply trying to connect and grow like everyone else.
There’s a hard, closed off energy in this industry. Even the women, they have to be, to survive.
It’s not what I’m used to. Everyone is obsessed with being cool / relevant / powerful / successful they miss the point that it’s the coolest thing to be kind and it doesn’t negate your success either like people seem to think.
Trouble is most people have been burned a million times over and are just weary and guarded and trying to make it through, no one trusts anyone.
It’s best to do your own thing to avoid the vipers nest of money hungry scammers and marketers, but the downside to that is it’s lonely AF and you question yourself constantly.
Makes me really determined to create something. I know there are others out there who must feel the same. We shouldn’t have to do this alone. Why make it harder than it already is.
Something where people feel, seen, safe, included, connected, inspired. I want to bring the humanity back into this space. It feels really empty and shallow.
Just full of affiliate marketers pushing codes / people saying the same old AI generated stuff, lacking personal touch. It makes you wanna scream into the void sometimes.
Backtesting will be the death of me I STG.
Used to enjoy it when I basically knew nothing and was blissfully ignorant. But now I see too much and somehow introduced about a zillion variables to test so it’s taking a literal lifetime and overwhelming my smoll brain.
Just goes to show simplicity is king it really really is.
Humans just can’t help themselves
I did not know that about charities 😔 I thought that was illegal? The whole point of charities is to prevent that surely. Sad to hear
J have you ever read Conversations with God? It’s a trilogy. Possibly the best books I have ever read. I go on about them to whoever will listen!
I read them when I was feeling very disillusioned with humanity and the immense darkness / suffering happening in the world. They provide all the answers to the ‘overthinker’ / introspect / curious mind and make SO much sense. They made me cry multiple times and gave me a feeling of peace that I hadn’t been able to find anywhere else; that it’s all going to be okay despite the way the world currently is. I highly recommend 🩶
Unfortunately it’s because money is at the centre of trading with no other real motivation. (For most)
I came from the wellness space and it does still happen there too - it’s hard to know who to trust there because people exploit the on the vulnerable and mentally ill which is equally disgusting - but it’s not AS bad because there is another motivation which is helping people heal and some do care about that.
In trading it’s just pure selfishness and money for most people so it’s just going to naturally attract the worst of the worst and cultivate a ‘step on people to get what you want’ culture
I actually love the hard times. I guess I’m kinda masochistic.
Imagine if life was only ever great, only ever precisely what you expected. You’d be so bored. You’d be so numb. You wouldn’t even understand what ‘great’ was because you’d have nothing to relate it to. Great would be beige.
Harder times force you to build your character. To focus. To refresh your resolve. To practice everything you preach. To test your belief in yourself and in the Universe. To walk the walk. To search for the lesson.
Hard times literally make you strong AF. They keep you on your toes. They are the petrol for your journey. They keep you feeling alive!
Without fuel you get nowhere. I mean, why does price move the way it does and not just in a straight line? It needs fuel, it needs to breathe, it needs to pause and rest, gather strength.
Look at breathing. The lungs literally expand and contract to bring life force in and out of the body. Nothing about that process is wrong. It’s nature! It’s deliberate and perfect.
Unmet expectations keep the ego in check. I really dislike arrogant people, I don’t ever want to be one. I wanna be relatable, authentic, true to myself, humble, a perpetual student of life, self validating, resilient.
Red / BE months keep you on that track. They stop you getting complacent and entitled. They give you a chance to practice gratitude when it’s not just second nature because everything’s going right and there’s no resistance.
It’s so necessary.
How are you ever going to learn Who You Are without adversity?
Septembers been kinda yucky until you look at your data and remember you haven’t had a pull back since January.
Completely normal and still green (just) and still 8 trading days of the month left.
This is the bit where that niggle starts, telling me I could be up so much more if I’d just followed my intuition on half of the trades I took that failed. But my system doesn’t reward discretion - that same discretion that might have me up this month may have had me down the last 8 months when I’ve been getting incredible results sticking to the same rules regardless of what I am predicting based on the past. I made rules as a point of reference for a reason.
I’m not changing that until I have the data to back up my intuition.
“An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming.”
Bring on October 🏹
@champagneszn777 AMEN. This is why I’ll never trade with TPT unless they change to EOD! Imagine penalising literal normal price action - like the way price moves just minding its own business gathering a water break before carrying on its merry way. Redonkulous
You can learn from a good trader but a terrible teacher.
Or a bad trader but a good teacher.
Or you can have a good trader, a good teacher, but generally a terrible person. (Aggressive / self centric / shallow / lacks humility / lacks integrity / lacks accountability / minimal desire to create positive change for others)
I’d never learn from number 3. Again, it’s all about frequency.
If I had to choose I’d go for number two. They’re probably terrible at trading because they are lazy and / or impulsive / impatient / greedy / lack the discipline to stick to their plan.
That doesn’t affect me. As long as they can teach me in a way I can easily understand and use effectively, then I’m good, because I taught myself to be excellent at what they suck at.
The rest will take care of itself 🩶
Always motivates Mike! Good on you. One of the real ones. Can I ask- has your edge decayed at all over the years and have you had to record a lot of data and modify to keep it solid? I record my data anyway but just interested to know if you edge has degraded over the years - or has your strategy changed slightly so it’s hard to quantify?
@AndrewTradesNQ Totally agree - it’s the entrance fee I guess- but once you re in:☀️ 🌈 🤩 as long as they don’t hit us with one of the many ‘chargeback’ notices that seem to be doing the rounds despite everyone saying they have never done any such thing
