When paralyzed overthinkers commit to taking small consistent steps forward, they have the benefit of both vision and action! “Overthinking” becomes regular thinking once again. Speed is relative anyway, so the deliberating types may as well become okay with slowing things down.
There’s nothing wrong with you and there never was. Improving can just be something you love to do for your Self, rather than something that allows you to get away from your Self and propagate self hatred. The Self loves you for who you are every step of the way, rain or shine.
Accepting your flaws and weaknesses is a form of self love, I think. Then, im assuming, the journey of improvement can still happen if you want, but it comes from a more compassionate place.
Acknowledging your flaws without actually accepting them and then trying to refine them out of your being is a form of self hatred im pretty sure. It allows you to escape your present via some journey of improvement that basically only exists in your head, from your point of view
The current you is the closest you’ll ever get to the “best You”, paradoxically. So becoming the “best You” doesn’t only come down to ironing out your perceived flaws/weaknesses. It also comes from accepting who you are right this second, flaws and all.
I used to really love the process of improving because it felt like I would someday become the best version of myself. But it never happened because I was always living in some far off deep future, even when finally meeting a goal.
You can become more attuned to when it is occurring, but if that turns into trying to control it, you’ll likely drive yourself insane. And even that leads to some interesting art lol. So there’s no real way into or out of it. All of it is process.
Catching lightning in a bottle all day forever just ain’t gonna happen. Thunderstorms do occur at times, but trying to control the weather is a misunderstanding of what is happening. Also I suspect that those moments happen on their own whether you try to make them happen or not.
Having constant access to inspirational material since early childhood has made me think that art is supposed to be happening basically 24/7 and if it isn’t, something is wrong lol. Unintentional lifelong bias propagated by having ready access to different artists’ highlights.
Once the universe thinks you’ve suffered about something enough, it lets you go and then you actually miss the damned suffering lmao. There’s no way to win, but things do get better I think. Phew
Letting go of the expectation of finishing a project in a timely manner is a lot to ask of me man lol. But I feel like the only way it ever gets finished in a timely manner is if I let go of trying to control for an outcome.
I can live with that honestly. I really enjoy just doodling around and stumbling into really cool things every now and then. But in the context of completing a big project, this becomes troublesome.
It’s interesting. The only time I ever actually have problems with drawing is when I decide I would like to draw something specific. Whether it’s simple or complex or even something I’ve drawn many times before. The second I decide to aim at a target, the arrow becomes heavy.
