@rokusanae this is funny to me because my ass had to sit through high school filipino with only 2 years of language remedial classes and i still scored higher than over half my class
@rokusanae probably, female characters have almost always had more plot significance than male characters. it's in the name: shin megami tensei
even reading the original digital devil story, the focus was always on yumiko using nakajima as a proxy pov

The shoplifting was just an excuse for the governing body to go after games featuring graphically explicit content.
It has to be said, there were games predating this such as 177 which were just as, if not more graphic.
🇯🇵 In Japan, anyone who's into vintage videogames knows of something called The Saori Incident (沙織事件) which happened in 1991.
In 1991, a PC game named Saori was released by a company named X-Shitei (Fairytale). The game was extremely graphic. In the story, a girl is kidnapped by an older woman and locked up in a mansion. It features some rather disturbing scenes.
The Saori Incident occurred when a junior high school student in Kyoto shoplifted a copy of the game. The police investigated the game which lead to raids on the developer, publisher, and related companies on November 25, 1991. Some executives were arrested under Japan's obscenity laws.
The game was recalled, and the scandal led to the founding of the Ethics Organization of Computer Software (EOCS) a year after.
