@LeverhulmeTrust funded research at @UofGGES exploring UK trans lives, past & present through archival & participatory research. Trans lib now! PI @jaytoddgla
I was prescribed Puberty Blockers a quarter of a century ago by the NHS's GIDS team.
There are so many things I am able to do today that I could not have been able to do without them.
I have never experienced a health complication from taking them.
They.
Saved.
My.
Life.

.... that 'other lesbians have given me shit because I'm bringing "male energy" into women's space'. Folks have always worked hard to generate queer solidarities! Let's follow in the footsteps of the people who've done so.
In celebration of #LesbianVisibilityWeek, an incredible quote from a cisgender lesbian woman in 1990 I recently found, talking about how she has always been there for trans masc people. Cisgender lesbian and trans people + communities have always been interconnected! RT!
The author of this letter - written in response to a trans man bothered when others perceive him as a lesbian - also discusses how she has been 'threatened with violence because I've been out with' trans men... 2/3
A timely quote from a trans woman in 1985 from some of the archival research I am conducting. Trans healthcare on the NHS is under threat, but it has always been life-saving.
I read the whole Cass Review, and wrote about how it promotes conversion therapy with any other name, and treats trans kids, and young adults, with total disdain for @Dazed

The Cass Review final report is due this week.

There's no mention of the interview on the BBC archive @bbcgenome but this serves reminder that the mainstream media can talk with and about trans folk without the current discourse 3/3 https://t.co/s3nzOfTBOY
I have just read a transcript of a @BBCWomansHour interview with two trans men from 1984. It's pretty stunning how respectful - if a bit tactless and intrusive - the interviewer is, and how the interview is just an open conversation shedding light on trans life at the time 1/3
It's also pretty stunning that 40 years on from this, it's difficult to imagine such an interview happening on the same terms - just trans people sharing insights to the wider public. 2/3
