We've been quiet recently because Mark Goodwin and I have been working to write the most comprehensive investigation into Polymarket's origins and ambitions to date.
We found that Polymarket's "official" origin story, that Shayne Coplan founded the company alone in 2020 and then built "the company in his bathroom", is a lie. Polymarket really started years earlier as another company called TokenBnk that was deeply tied to Israeli interests, specifically a crypto company founded by Benjamin Netanyahu's niece and nephew. Coplan has actively tried to obfuscate this company from his story and it's not the only thing either.
In Part 1 of this two-part series, we unravel the real history of Polymarket, directly connecting the company to Peter Thiel's efforts to resurrect controversial DARPA programs from its now defunct Information Awareness Office. Polymarket appears to have been chosen by Thiel and his associates to succeed in resurrecting DARPA's Policy Analysis Market where another Thiel-linked company, Augur, had previously failed.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we explore the current influence of prediction markets and Polymarket, including how an insidious effort to have prediction markets replace representative democracy as a governance model is already being slowly implemented by the White House.

The left “lost the historical purpose of (its) existence when they [laid down] their arms, when they stopped offering an alternative revolutionary path for people and for the nations, when they started looking for solutions and dropped the option of victory,” said Khaled Barakat, Palestinian writer, organizer, and leader of Masar Badil (@MasarBadil), in an interview with VPol, when asked why the left is so much less relevant on the international scene today.
■ “Revolutionary Islamic forces like Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Ansar Allah.. are the forces today that the masses are supporting. And this is not an accident. This is not because people don't know the position of the left. It's because they actually support an actual resistance. And this camp of resistance today in our region is led by Iran,” said Barakat.
■ “Our role is to revolutionize the left instead of, like, tapping them on the shoulder and say, you know, you're doing good, you just issued a statement saying the correct position. Even the correct position today is not what we want. We want a correct position that is implemented in real programs.”
"hands off Iran" is insufficient.
"u.s. out of Iran" is insufficient.
We don't need an "anti-war" mvmt that condemns "both sides" and tries to "stop the war." We need an anti-colonial mvmt that fights to smash the "u.s." in alignment with the global anti-imperialist resistance.
We have always been prepared for martyrdom. We stand against the corrupt Zionist Epstein Class and support the oppressed from Palestine to Cuba. We look to Imam Hussain's sacrifice in Karbala for inspiration. If we remain faithful, we are victorious in life and death.
@jackmabou@snackvampire to the conscript holding the 9K32 Strela-2 with stickers of the Virgin Mary, Hugo Chavez, Simón Bolívar, and Goku stuck to the side; you can do this.
Is the solution resistance or peace?
This is the view of the late great Egyptian thinker Abdel Wahab Elmessiri:
Host: Who is in the right, Fatah or Hamas?
Dr. Elmessiri: Hamas, of course. My conviction is well known: the only option is resistance, and more resistance.
As for imagining that what they call a “culture of peace” leads to positive results, no. The West gives you according to your strength. If you abandon resistance, you will gain nothing.
As happened with President Sadat. He imagined that once he visited Jerusalem, the treasuries would open for him just like that. In the end, they abandoned him until he was assassinated.
The same applies to Fatah and the Palestinian Authority. They announce that they will lay down arms and even search for and pursue those who insist on carrying weapons. In other words, they have turned into a tool of repression. They imagine that by doing so, the Israelis will grant them some gains.
The problem in the Arab–Israeli conflict is that the Israeli minimum does not align with the Palestinian minimum.
Take the issue of East Jerusalem, for example. Israel cannot give up East Jerusalem. The return of refugees is also impossible for Israel because it threatens the fragile demographic structure. The dismantling of settlements as well: if Israel dismantles the settlements, it loses its legitimacy as a Zionist state.
Israeli right-wingers say that evacuating Hebron and Nablus of settlements means evacuating Tel Aviv, and I agree with them on this. Because the Zionist regime is fragile and built on settlement and transfer, and all of this makes it incapable of offering any concessions of any kind.
The birthplace of Jesus - Bethlehem, 🇵🇸 - is walled off from the world by Israel, shrunk to less than 15% of its size by land grab & isolated from its twin city Jerusalem. Yet Christmas for Palestinians is a joyous national holiday of hope in justice. Merry Christmas to all.
Perhaps the most shameful part of Mamdani’s visit to Trump is that he is managing to make Trump look good at a time when Trump’s approval is tanking. So, not only is Mamdani on the project of putting the Democratic Party on life support, but he is now trying to put Trump on life support as well.
@KlonnyPin_Gosch and to simultaneously make his own policies/brand seem more appealing to a confused populist/economic-left leaning demographic that he thinks he could funnel folks back into his camp from, the sort of nazbol angle
Paladino: Trump played chess. Today was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I will tell you this, this guy has got a lot of answering to do when he comes back to New York. Because he has got the DSA types that are going to hold his hands over the fire for taking a meeting with Trump let alone come out of it buddy, buddy. I think Trump was brilliant.
@KlonnyPin_Gosch trumps reactions are so absurdly friendly and agreeable with zohran that it almost feels like a 4d situation where he is “leaning in” to the theory that zohran is compromised and/or ideologically aligned with trump in an attempt to sabotage his support on the left
