@KCGrock@SFMTA_Muni The cost and complexity of that upgrade would be much less than the current project because the current system is being designed with forward compatibility in mind, whereas this project is upgrading us from 1980s/90s tech.
@KCGrock@SFMTA_Muni The system we are purchasing can be upgraded with these capabilities but would require additional equipment and software which would need to be purchased separately in the future when the tech is ready and if the MTA decides to make that investment
The lunar new year takeover of Stockton Street and the various night markets popping up in SF prove there is a market for this type of atmosphere. I believe whats next is changing our permanent infrastructure to accommodate these types of activities It will create a new landmark
Also, I donโt care what the fire department thinks about this idea.
US fire departments with giant trucks will hate it but fire departments in other countries manage trickier situations just fine, so I would just encourage the fire department to develop an imagination.
One of the most undercover villains in the fight for safer streets is fire departments who insist on responding to all emergencies, not just fires, in gigantic ladder trucks instead of smaller vehicles.
@CSElmendorf This was evident because the zones were occupied by delivery trucks or employee vehicles most of the time. So it makes sense that they arenโt pushing for more meter turnover.
@CSElmendorf I have done a few parking and loading occupancy studies (in Chinatown, Union Square, Berkeley) and it was clear that the reason merchants are so sensitive about parking is because they want the parking *for themselves* or their employees rather than for their customers.
@alex_hallowell @andr_w Itโs a betrayal of staffโs trust in leadership which makes this career seem Sisyphean. It feels so disrespectful of the work and efforts of public servants.
@alex_hallowell @andr_w Same. I think it is because thousands of hours of hard work by staff on a project that could have really made a difference in this world were spent in vain because a politician withdrew her permission at the last minute for arbitrary political reasons.
@TribTowerViews @orkoliberal Example: MTC already oversees Clipper and local agencies have little control over the program and any problems it encounters. Yet riders expect us to solve problems with it
@TribTowerViews @orkoliberal From your posts I donโt think I will convince you, and I donโt think you will convince me in a Twitter exchange. Which was the point of my OP; putting governance in a funding bill divides transit supporters and makes passage of said funding bill less likely
