Dear @adilray I too would have liked some clarity on which aspect of modern life he meant, given that he went to war, like all those we have lost to fight against fascism.
'What we fought for was our freedom, even now [the country] is worse than it was when I fought for it,' says 100-year-old World War II Veteran Alec Penstone.
Our local hospital had to run bookings and patient records for a very long time on bits of paper scurried urgently between departments due to an 'irreversible' database upgrade, maybe a decade ago. Not sure it has recovered service to pre upgrade standard yet . .
'Once it's digitised...you know where they are, you know what their category is,' says Housing Secretary @SteveReedMP.
@kategarraway questions him as a manhunt is underway for a migrant sex offender released by mistake from HMP Wandsworth earlier this week.
@DarrenScott Just fought my way back in here to bring you this, because those were the days.
Meanwhile Happy Missed Birthdays and Merry Christmas!

@quakerpen And a gathering of minds who know that 'our nation' is not represented by our current government, particularly essential for those of us in England.
There's been an overly intrusive steward today who disturbs the stillness of mind you describe as they go through the Hall.
You forgot the extra layers created by private takeovers of services, whose skills extend to branding, marketing and the commissioning of hopeless databases with tick box assessment systems that feed reports, and 'contact' counting.
@foxfreckle@BehaviourA@debrakidd 'One of the trees was actually in his neighbour’s garden. Beale claimed an overzealous tree surgeon had got carried away . . '
@debrakidd @VickerageAnna So sorry. Sueing would make it clear that recklessly and often deliberately attacking our trees is unwanted by most of us. See this in our area, extremely power-saw-happy staff operating this way, taking down as much as they can. Why?!
Could have a mature tree installed properly.
@ZODIDOG @cmtwrites Especially when they're now plastic based. Very polluting and wasteful if they had just been burned. Bad enough whenever they do need replacement. We had ancient coppers and 'silver' coins in circulation when I was young, definitely Georges in the mix, not just Elizabeth.
@JLewisland Aye. Look at the groups and voices who want to take the monarchy down and imagine what they want to put in place instead.
Who do we think would hate to see an environmentally minded King? 🤔
I dreamed that we were governed by honest, intelligent, caring politicians who put public service for public good above all else. That they listened & learned & made best informed decisions & were completely aware of the impact of our suite of crises . But that was just a dream
