If this efficiency became the norm across every ministry, Nigerians would renew documents proactively, not scramble at the last minute. Our green passport is slowly earning its respect back. π³π¬
Nigeria's passport system used to be a nightmare of bribes, "network glitches," and 6-month waits.
Then one minister @BTOofficial@nigimmigration quietly fixed it.
Here's what changed and the receipts to prove it. #nigerianpassport
This is what happens when systems are rebuilt around citizens instead of gatekeepers. No bribes, no "come back tomorrow," no informal jollof-rice economy outside the center just to survive the wait.
Biometrics itself took under an hour. The volume of people processed in a single day was honestly shocking.Cost started at Β£70, dropped to Β£20 after public pushback, proof of a listening minister. Skeptics doubted the Β£50 refund would come. It did!
Diaspora renewal used to be its own nightmare. UK has just one center (London), with waits of up to 6 months from payment to biometrics. I gave up trying.
Then the intervention exercise happened. Payment β appointment β biometrics, all within ONE week.
Meanwhile Ghana was posting passports out in days. Fast forward to now: I renewed my own passport for under β¦65,000, valid 10 years, done in ONE WEEK. Applied online, booked appointment, did biometrics, paid β¦5,000 for a name correction. No extra fees, no drama.
Only 2 centers existed in the whole US (NY & Atlanta). Maryland was closed. For others it was worse. People flew in, booked hotels, missed work, only to be met with "network glitch," "waiting on Abuja," or "no booklets." Renewals had to be approved from Abuja HQ.
Having the right person in power is a blessing. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has quietly transformed one of Nigeria's most painful bureaucratic experiences: getting a passport.
8 years ago: got my child a passport in New York. Cost $80 + $100 "rush fee" just to get it same day.
There's nothing like urgent travel. Start planning your passport replacement ahead as most countries prefer 6 months validity date on a passport to allow one into their country. #travel#nis#nigerianpassport
For those in United Kingdom, New Nigerian passport or renewal is Β£153 but there's 6 months waiting time to get an appointment for biometrics/capture in London. I hope one day the Nigerian commission can open more centres in other cities or use the post office to due to demand

@1turkishairline@TurkishAir_CHI@TurkishAirlines has the worst refund policy ever. 8 months and counting. Yet no solution in sight. They would just keep asking for documents that had already been submitted including one's kidney's certificate of ownershipπππ.

Airpeace initially says itβs routes to London are fully booked till September then turn round to say more seats are now available. Marketing at its peak ππΎ
