What a historic #FoundersDay for King’s College, Budo! 🦁

As Canon John Fred Kazibwe often says: "If you do good – you feel good. If you feel good – you do good." Yesterday, under the leadership of OBC President Farouk Ssewankambo, the Old Budonians' Club felt incredibly good as we gathered to celebrate 120 years of our great institution and give back to the Hill that shaped us.

Here are the major highlights from the President’s address:

🤝 A Dignified Transition of Leadership
We led a massive standing ovation for outgoing Headteacher Canon Kazibwe. His four-year tenure transformed our school—delivering new dormitories, a new classroom block, renovated staff houses, kitchen innovations, and finally solving the perennial water problem. (Gone are the days and smells of Abuja and Takoradi; the toilets are waterborne!).
In the same breath, we warmly welcomed our new Headteacher, Mr. Godfrey Kasamba. Having served Budo with dedication for over 30 years, he is as Budonian as they come, and we are fully behind him.

👑 Honoring a Matriarch: Hon. Rhoda Kalema
To commemorate our 120th Anniversary, the OBC has officially requested the school to name the newly opened reading space at the girls' end after the late Hon. Rhoda Kalema. She was a fierce champion for the girl-child, a trailblazer, and a true Budonian icon whose legacy must be immortalized on this Hill.
🎓 Changing Lives Through the OBC Bursary

The OBC exists to lift up exceptional students who need a hand. We are beyond proud to announce that two of our OBC-sponsored students, Nakimera Rachel and Kalumba Jivan Dan, were among the top performers in their recent S6 exams! Another beneficiary, Lucky Nakabugo, is thriving in S2 and sent her deep gratitude to the Club. This is why we do what we do.

💰 Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is
To ensure this progress continues, President Ssewankambo presented two major cheques on behalf of the OBC:
✅ UGX 17,400,000 to sustain the annual student bursary program.
✅ UGX 10,000,000 towards ongoing infrastructural projects at the school.

🌍 A Global Brotherhood
A special appreciation to the teaching and non-teaching staff who keep Budo's standards high, and a massive shoutout to the Old Budonians who flew in from across the globe just to be with us: Madame Winnie Bemba (Chairperson, OBA-UK), Counsel Kato Mpanga (UK), Mr. Paul Kavuma (Australia), and Eng. Bill Muyanja (USA).

We will be celebrating Budo’s 120th anniversary all year long. The Budonian spirit has never been stronger.
