Best thing about football is the life long relationships built. I coached so many wonderful young people in my 17 years and these four are some of my favorites and even coached for me. More than a game!
I’ve coached high school football for 33 years.
I’ve coached teams that have gone 0-10 and teams with that have gone 10-0.
I’ve played for championships and I’ve prayed for first downs.
I’ve lost my cool and I’ve been steady under pressure.
I’ve called some amazing games and I’ve lost games due to foolish decisions.
I’ve laughed and I’ve cried.
What’s remand consistent is the kids. 14-18 years of age that needed a steady voice, someone to believe in them. A leader and a mentor that would bring the best out of them.
Lets keep that in mind as we scheme and dream about next season. It’s all about building champions. One conversation, one practice, one season one life at the time.
As moratorium ends this week, I have been reflecting on the work that goes in during the summer and after this week to lead to what people see on friday nights. I pray that coaches always remember why they do what they do every day and to continue to push the young men they lead.
The word LEGACY means a lot of things to different people, but honoring my dear friend and mentor tonight was the picture of this word. So many family, friends, former players, and even a few of his high school teammates to honor this amazing man! Love and miss you, Coach Tiek!
Coaches, we will be turning our lights on at EG tomorrow night. Friday from 7 to 9 to honor Coach Danny Tieken. His favorite place was a football field on Friday nights, so let's honor him by shining lights on his favorite place!
The football fraternity lost a legend yesterday. I will always cherish the 13 seasons at 3 schools I was able to learn from Coach Tieken. Love and miss you Coach
The best coaches do not just develop talent, they develop people.
Athletes will remember how you treated them long after they forget the plays you called.
Coach with purpose. Lead with heart. Your legacy is not in wins, but in lives changed.
I have made the difficult decision to leave a place I truly love. I appreciate the community, our players, and the families that have become like our own. Forever a Tbird!

Marcus Freeman said, “My current and former players: You are my WHY. You are my motivation. You are the reason that I get up every day & work as hard as I can. To see you all reach your goals.”
Great leaders want what's best for others.
