We outsourced our memory of phone numbers to our iPhones. We then outsourced our spatial memory for navigation to the GPS, and we're in the process of outsourcing our thinking and problem solving to the LLM's. What are we as a species losing due to these technological conveniences? Do we even remember what we've already lost at this point?

Most likely they are just good at their craft and want to stay that way. The "CO-Pilot" pause is real, and it's not good. You've spent your whole life honing your thinking and problem solving skills to get where you are today. If you start outsourcing that to a machine, then you're own ability to problem solve will dwindle away and with it any advantage you had created for yourself. You'll be stuck with whatever generic/default solution the LLM gives you which is the same it gives everyone. If in your mind, AI is like "magic" and you have no idea how it works, I'd highly recommend taking the time to fully understand it, in order to not over or under estimate it's current and future capabilities. AI is one of the most hyped technologies of all time and the hype is mostly complete bullshit once you have had a good look "behind the curtain". I also understand how amazing LLMs are and I stand in awe of the technological achievement. But like with all things its double-edged swords all the way down.

If it's anything like claude's debut of computer operation, we as developers will spend most of our time handling the short comings and bugs of the model instead of creating the life changing automation tools we're all thinking of right now. I've been wrestling with the lack of "intelligence" in AI models for over 2 years now as a developer and its only barely gotten iteratively better across all of these model and platform updates, but they keep telling us AGI is right around the corner. THe hype train is exhausting. Not to say that's what you're doing, but I think it's important to try to see things for what they are instead of what we're told they are or what we hope they'll be.
