7 preaching tips for pastors:

1) say something that matters. If your sermon feels like a precious moments chicken soup for the soul talk, you need to amp it up.
2) make it clear but don’t talk to people like they’re stupid. You will be tempted to dumb it down, but if you preach to kindergarteners, you’ll end up with a church full of adults who spiritually pee in their pants.
3) if you’re not making people uncomfortable in your sermons, you’re not preaching like Jesus did, or Paul, or Peter…if you fear angry emails, you’ll never reach your potential. Do you fear God or man?
4) addressing cultural issues isn’t optional, it’s biblical. Letters to the churches (epistles of the NT), addressed ISSUES in those regions. If you ignore what’s happening in culture, you aren’t ministering to the people who live in that culture.
5) if your message is confrontational but not hopeful, you’re not preaching the gospel. Our victory and hope should undergird every sermon - even the challenging ones.
6) if you never get people walking out of church mad, angry emails, or negative feedback, then you’re not pushing hard enough. Did people universally love what Jesus taught?
7) Think of your volume and energy level like the gears of a car, if you’re always soft-spoken, it’s boring. If you’re always shouting, it’s exhausting. If you’re always in third gear, people are dying for you to open it up. Switch up your gears to keep it enagaging.
