It helps both sides understand each other's argument and maybe everyone walks away with a new point of view. Maybe "fight" was the wrong word to use.

I do agree with the overall message of not backing down from a fight as a metaphor for continuing conversations though. I'm disappointed with anyone who shies away from discussion regardless of party.

Many people on social media are only looking to get a reaction from someone on the other side. They don't care about discussing actual issues or policies. They want to drop the mic in front of somebody and walk away.

Look at Twitter the past few days, many new users from the right coming on-board believing this will be a new conservative echo chamber and many users from the left leaving for that same reason. Both sides should be here in my opinion.
