Good news!
The AP has just called the race for Nevada's 4th District in the House.
Democrat Steven Horsford will hold onto his seat against Republican John Lee.
Since I appear to be offering up lessons on tariffs today, riddle me this, Maga. Tariffs on imported building materials like plywood, drywall and roofing will result in skyrocketing costs of rebuilding post Hurricane Helene (or any other natural disaster). This will immediately impact the cost of your homeowners insurance. The cherry on top is you voted for the party that last week indicated they wanted to repeal the CHIPS act! The FAFO is real.
*don't come at me with where building materials come from. i promise i know more about it than you do.
BREAKING: President Trump has picked Susan Wiles to be his Chief of Staff.
For those who don’t know, Wiles is the woman whom in the 2023 federal indictment of Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents, was reportedly alleged to had been shown a classified map related to a military operation by Trump after he left office.
Following the indictment, ProPublica reported a rise in payments to Wiles and the hiring of her daughter, viewed by many as an attempt to silence her in the investigation.
Biden made banks stop surprising you with hidden charges. That's gone now.

"The convoy got f*cked up. F*ck, look what's going on here! Let's go, floor it!"
A Russian soldier films from his car a convoy of destroyed Russian equipment on one of the numerous so-called "roads of death" in the Donetsk region. Judging by his reaction, the convoy was subjected to heavy shelling, with some equipment still burning.
.@mikebarnicle: "[VP Harris] was a symbol of democracy in what she said and how she said it. She conceded. And the irony is that on January 20th, the incoming President-elect of the U.S., Donald J. Trump, will be asked to put his hand on a Bible... and swear allegiance to the Constitution — something he had no respect for in January 2021."
We’re in Hell
I’ve spent all morning trying to think of more meaningful and graceful words to write, but I’m at a loss so I’ll just say it: this sucks. We woke up today and found out that Americans are a lot worse people than we always hoped they were. And a psychotic senile extremist criminal is going to be President of the United States (again).
Like the rest of you, I have no explanation for why 2024 saw record high turnout, yet something like twenty million fewer votes than in 2020. There will be abundant theories about this, and there will be a temptation to chase them, but I’m not sure it matters. The bottom line is that a stunning, jarring number of people were willing to vote for a monster, even after they knew full well that it was a monster. These people are never to be forgiven.
It also needs to be pointed out that the media once again screwed us royally. With a hundred days to go the major media outlets (on both sides) suddenly decided to use dishonest pretenses to force President Biden out of the race, at a time when he was still within the margin of error and was in far better cognitive condition than Trump, simply because the media felt it could get better ratings by forcing Biden out. It forced Kamala Harris to enter the race very late, and while she ran a historically inspiring and incredibly competent campaign, winning on such short notice proved to be unrealistic. The media’s dishonest last minute railroading of Biden was a criminal level of election interference on the part of the major media outlets, and they are never to be forgiven either.
If I can offer you one piece of advice right now, it’s to try to take this one day at a time. If you start thinking too far ahead about the worst case scenarios… let’s just say that in times like this it’s vital to keep yourself sane. One day at a time. One fight at a time.
It’s okay to feel sick to your stomach. I know I do. Right now I’m thinking in particular of women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBT community, all of whom are in danger. All I can tell you is that it’s been an honor to fight alongside all of you – and I’m going to keep fighting. Whether I want to keep fighting is irrelevant. I have to keep fighting. I have to try. Much hope is lost, but not all hope is lost, and that matters. This is too important to simply give up because things have gotten harder. And I hope you’ll ultimately be willing to keep fighting alongside me.
He’s not going to make life better for the bulk of the people who voted for him.
Groceries are going to get more expensive, healthcare coverage will be harder to get, their jobs will be less equitable and lower paying, their medications will be impossible to afford, the air they breathe, water they drink and food they eat will be less safe, and their kids will have less access to public education, if they can access it at all.
The women who voted for him will face losing even more rights, the Latinos who voted for him will face deportation, and the blue collar workers who voted for him will face lower wages and more hours for less pay, in unsafe conditions, without overtime.
But so long as they get to hate who they hate, or pull the ladder up behind them, or blame some innocent immigrant for all that ails them… they don’t care. Even if they can’t afford eggs under him either, which by the way, they won’t…
They still won’t care.
One of my GCs I partner w is a Trump guy. We won a new job that will start next year. I just told him I won’t honor today’s materials’ pricing past January. He asked why. I said tariffs could cause 100% increase in COGS or more. That I would send new pricing in the spring. He said but I have to sign the fixed price contract w them tomorrow! And there you have it! One lesson learned two days too late! Too bad. So sad.
While voters have many reasons for their choices, and I respect their right to make them and accept the outcome of the election, so much of what I hear from Trump supporters is that “the left” looks down on them.
