If students never made mistakes, there would be no need for interventions. Making mistakes should be expected and encouraged in a true learning community. And if students are to learn from their mistakes, then a school’s grading practices must be aligned to this outcome. #atplc
The American Association of Pediatricians says kids are better off in school, but its president says ordering schools to reopen "without consideration of community spread really goes against our recommendations."

Great reminder from @tguskey: “Grades do not reflect who you are as a learner, but reflect where you are in your learning journey—where is always temporary.” Corrective instruction or enrichment must accompany grades to help students continue on their learning journey. #GetSetGo
Kids need people who love them. Kids need structure and high expectations. Kids need restorative conversations, not suspensions. Kids need more recess. Kids need culturally relevant curriculum.
Why are things like this so hard to do?
Teach your students
• to doubt,
• to think,
• to communicate,
• to question,
• to make mistakes,
• to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly
• have fun in their learning.
There will be no high stakes testing this year, and yet all over America educators have continued to teach and inspire their students online. I hope the powers that be realize we do what we do because we love children and not because a test is held over our heads.
A leader doesn’t doesn’t look to criticize, a leader accepts criticism and learns. A leader doesn’t look for praise, a leader offers praise. A leader doesn’t ask for trust, a leader earns your trust. We all have those who need us to love them and lead them. Be a leader
To quote @rickwormeli2 , "How we are going grade something should not be the filter for how we choose distance learning engagements." When are we going to realize that now, more than ever, it's about the learning, not the grade?
