“But I reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she’s going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I can’t stand it.”
@amandalitman Many of the things you say are true, but while I could live with and support a "flawed" child, I wouldn't want my oncologist to be in any sense "problematic". He's not just aiming to navigate through life, he's asking to be a United States Senator.
@EricMGarcia When exactly was the last time a Democrat won Senate seat in Maine?
Oddly on topic. The SS-Totenkopfverbände were a specialized, paramilitary branch of the Nazi Party's SS responsible for administering and guarding extermination camps in Nazi Germany.
@Eviljohna@jeanienyc@MarcoFoster_@grahamformaine Right. Can not maintain a straightforward series of goals over a four year period. It's a good indicator for basic life stuff, e.g. he's more likely to end up divorced. The man wants to be a member of the United States Senate. What experience even mildly qualifies him?
@jeanienyc@MarcoFoster_@grahamformaine Mamdani graduated from Bowdoin College, in Maine, with no history of hate oriented body art. Platner does not have a degree and had questionable body art done as an adult. Many might overlook the fact he couldn't survive as an undergraduate, but really, who are we dealing with?
@MarcoFoster_@grahamformaine For clarity what Genevieve McDonald said in the NYT was “The United States Senate is not a training ground for redemption...It is a place for proven leaders with moral clarity and integrity.”
@eudtoxic@datingbyblaine The point is simple. Male fertility is not the same as female fertility; a perimenopausal women has a very low chance of becoming pregnant regardless of the age of the person she is sleeping with; a middle aged man is more likely to father a child with a younger woman.
@eudtoxic@datingbyblaine It's true that male fertility drops in the way you describe when compared to other males, but not compared to women. Match a 48 year old woman with a handful of 20-29 year old men - you may (or may not) have a baby in a year. It does not work the same with roles reversed though.
@dilanesper Thurmond and Byrd never won office in Maine, but Margaret Chase Smith served while both were in the Congress. She is remembered for her "Declaration of Conscience" speech; she was the first woman to serve in both houses. Maine should aim to keep it's high standards.
@grahamformaine "He also plays up his job as an “oyster farmer,” but the only client mentioned in his federal financial disclosure was the restaurant his mother owns." Teddy Daniels, May 28, 2026. Wall Street Journal Commentary "I’m the Soldier Graham Platner Mocked"
@nic_carter Rod Stewart, Elton John and Van Morrison must have been left out specifically so I would have something to contribute. Thank you.
Apropos of the neighborhood. Detroit punched well outside it's weight in pop music in the same timeframe.
@anotherryan00 The average African American possesses approximately 20 to 25 percent European ancestry, largely from British and Irish (Anglo-Saxon) populations.
@jjfThompson Many will wonder at your take on the Alexander Stephens and reliance on hypotheticals in driving a "historical" narrative. But most likely don't get beyond the first "The question isn’t “was slavery evil?”" with you.
@jjfThompson@grok There's a reason Lincoln doesn't talk slavery until the costs of the war and it's outcome are plain. This isn't high level history; go watch Lincoln (2012) for the basic politics. Likewise there's a reason Jeff Davis doesn't start chatting up states rights till he is in prison.
