Talking of snow, on this day in 1982 it started snowing in Wales for 36 hours!
The M4 was brought to a standstill and the roof of Sophia Gardens pavilion in Cardiff collapsed under the sheer weight of snow! ❄️❄️❄️ https://t.co/MeBPOG8MrK
This is so good.
Rory McIlroy goes deep into what happened on the 13th hole at the Masters when he flubbed his chip.
Should he have stayed aggressive?
The last part is awesome. It goes deep into the psyche of golfers and how it affects us all.
He explains why the Masters is so different and how it affects their expectations. Memories are so
powerful.
In that moment, he was already thinking about his US Open wedge that cost him that trophy. No wonder he was tail spinning.
On January 23, I’ll be free soloing Taipei 101 in Taiwan. It’s been a long time goal of mine and it’ll be the most ambitious urban climb that I’ve attempted. It’s a nearly 1,700 ft tower! What’s not to like?! And I’ll be doing it LIVE on @netflix. Tune in Friday, January 23 at 8PM ET / 5PM PT
There are sporting superstars and then there is Rory McIlroy. He is only the fourth Irish winner, emulating Mary Peters (1972), Barry McGuigan (1985) and AP McCoy (201). A more worthy winner than the golfing genius from Holywood would be hard to imagine.
News: The UK Bank of England base rate has again been cut, now from 4% to 3.75% (lowest for nearly two years) saying 'we're past the peak of inflation and should hit 2% to April this year'. That seems to indicate more rate cuts likely to come over 2026.
What it means for mortgages, savings, cards & loans...
MORTGAGES
- If fixed, no change until your fix ends. The rate of new fixes may drop a tad, but this cut was expected so has mostly already been somewhat factored in.
- If on tracker rate will drop 0.25% points
- If variable (including standard variable rate) it should drop by around that but it doesn't have to be exact amount. Usually takes up to a month to come in.
- A 0.25% reduction is equivalent to £15 lower repayments per month per £100,000 of mortgage.
SAVINGS
Variable rate savings (which is mainly easy access accounts) will likely drop within a two to four weeks by 0.25%.
Fix rate savings have already factored in some of this cut. Though they may shave down further. If you want to fix your savings, safest bet is do it today.
CREDIT CARDS
Mostly unaffected, they're already so high above the base rate with typical APRs now 24.9% . Though it may see slightly longer 0% deals launched.
LOANS
Existing loans are unaffected as they're usually fixed rates. New loans are set based more on interest rate forecasts than base rate moves. Expect the cheapest new loan rates to shave down very marginally but it takes quite a while for that to factor in

Ramping up treadmill miles and strength work this year for Hawaii’s HURT 100, aiming for my 9th finish. Lessons from experience & science: Last year, also trained in snow which was not as effective; slick conditions forced slower paces, increasing RPE/HR without proportional training gains. Plus, that 50-miler I won 6 weeks prior left me flat (recovery: 5-9+ days muscles, 2+ weeks stress markers). Still nabbed 2nd-best time at the HURT. Racing toll? Huge, energy loss, muscle damage, high cortisol if too close. True training: stimuli + rest + adaptation via periodization. Else? Just exercise. #UltraRunning

From January we’re becoming The Brasserie , an evolution of who we already are. Nothing about our standards is changing. The same team, the same care, and attention to detail. What is changing is that we’re opening our doors a little wider. We want more of our community to feel welcome to enjoy the experience we provide, not just on special occasions, but any day of the week.
This next chapter is about generosity. About making great food and warm hospitality more accessible, while keeping the quality exactly where it’s always been
LIAM GALLAGHER CONFIRMS RUMOURS THAT OASIS WILL RECORD THE NEXT JAMES BOND THEME:
"It’s happening, you wait till you hear it it’s the best BOND tune ever"
Amazon MGM, now in control of the Bond franchise, thinks the brothers are the perfect fit. One source said: “Who better to soundtrack Bond than one of the greatest British bands? Liam’s swagger and Noel’s anthemic sound would be perfect.”
Noel has openly campaigned for the job before, even admitting he’s written a few Bond-inspired tracks already though he joked the titles would need tweaking. He’s also previously slammed the franchise for using non-British artists.
The new Bond film is currently in development with Denis Villeneuve directing and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script. Knight said joining the franchise is a “bucket-list” moment and promised something “stronger and bolder.”
