@PaulCollings96@DPJHodges@AsplinKevin Maybe take a few moments looking at the criminal record of the gallant patriots who were sentenced today - maybe the guy who punched his partner unconscious among 33 convictions, or the 45 previous offences of the one who wanted a reduced term because he loved his daughter.
@PaulCollings96@DPJHodges@AsplinKevin I think the point being made is that Suella Braverman - now in Reform - was Home Secretary when the offender was admitted to the UK. Worth noting also that immigration and the number of asylum seekers are falling.
@PaulCollings96@DPJHodges@AsplinKevin The main reason for fall in net migration was a 47% fall in arrivals of non-EU citizens for work. Emigration was 640,000, of which 246,000 British. 110,000 British returned. Lots of students coming and going. It’s not simple, and only 14% of immigrants seek asylum.
@MazzucatoM More than £300m, surely ? Warplanes and weapons (two aircraft carriers cost £6 billion), cleaners and consultants, medicines and hospitals, police cars, roads and bridges (pothole repair bill is measured in billions) ?
@paullewismoney The curious thing about the consensus that we need to spend much more resisting the Russian threat, is that it comes after they lost in Afghanistan, got their flagship sunk in the Black Sea, their tanks destroyed in the road to Kiev and their N.Korean mercenaries slaughtered.
@SecondInternat1@DAaronovitch People snorted when Prince William said he was a Villan, but it seems genuine enough. I prefer childhood affiliations that can’t be avoided, like Michael Foot and Plymouth Argyle.
@FraserNelson You will, of course, be told the government is lying about the real crime figures. To which you ask why didn’t the government lie about the migration figures, and silence will follow.
@JDVance Last year, UK police shot dead four people. US police shot dead more than a thousand. Maybe your concern about police competence should start closer to home.
