For almost three years, I have been waiting for the day I can finally bury my father, my brother, and my sister-in-law. They remain beneath the rubble of our home.

Today, I joined Al Jazeera English to discuss the prolonged grief experienced by so many families in Gaza who are still waiting to recover, identify, and bury their loved ones.

Behind every body beneath the rubble is a name, a life, and a family waiting for answers.

Gaza needs not only heavy machinery to remove the rubble, but also adequate forensic and DNA capacity so that remains can be identified and returned to their families with dignity.

Recovery must also mean restoring this most basic human dignity: the right of families to find, identify, and bury their loved ones.

We are still waiting too.
