People will look at the number in a vacuum and be grossed out by this contract, but this is EXACTLY the time you pay a player of Trae Young’s caliber

The majority of the Wizards are under rookie contracts, with the team already having a ton of depth

Even if Trae isn’t the “franchise player” (the #1 overall pick this year will be), he is the player that can help usher in the new era

He has the playmaking and playoff experience to make a significant difference on this roster and he will help set the table with his passing to make life easier for his teammates, helping the rookies and young players with their development
