@JesseBrown He reported on a pattern that is challenging a number of organizations. It's an overview. Is there more? Yes - please bring Arts coverage back to Canadaland to cover it. But don't conflate erasure with the limits being imposed on one of the few arts journalists left in this town.

It is rare to see direct clashes at COPs. But we just witnessed one at today's plenary at #COP28, when Saudi Arabia's plea to focus on adaptation & emissions instead of fossil fuels was followed by this remarkable statement by Colombia (my transcription).
But see for yourselves..
Ottawa school boards are struggling to get students to school due to a $6 million funding cut by the govt. In response, Education Minister Stephen Lecce offered just $1.8 million, but only if the boards agreed to messaging he provided.

They had a playbook. It goes back to 2019.
Susan McGovern’s brother and husband operate The Rice Group. They are one of a handful of conservative donors whose land Mr. Ford’s government removed during the #GreenbeltGrab last year, following the slipping of brown envelopes across a table at an industry event.
Premier Doug Ford appointed McGovern to the board of the Greenbelt Foundation in 2019.
The Greenbelt Foundation is described as “the only organization solely dedicated to ensuring the Greenbelt remains permanent, protected and prosperous.”
Talk about a fox in the hen house. What a feast for McGovern and her husband!
This is a playbook for dismantling public assets. And it started in 2019 - with action from the Premier. The fall guy Ryan Amato? He was only in the role since 2022. He came in to execute a strategy put in place by the Premier, make no mistake.

@JoshMatlow There absolutely needs to be a public audit of Artscape - which began as a modest and well-run non-profit - then morphed into a land hungry empire sacrificing artists' needs for it's increasingly unwieldy niche real estate empire with a Developer-led board
This is Itamar Ben Gvir. He controls Israel’s police.
This is him, today, calling on Israel to kill 1000s of Palestinians, destroy their homes, and steal their land.
He’s one of the most powerful politicians in Israel, and he’s openly calling for Palestinians to be killed.
#Dow plastered #Singapore with ads for a sneaker #recycling program, promising to turn shoes into playground tracks. But the shoes it collected in "recycling" bins got dumped illegally in #Indonesia. This isn't strange: it's how nearly *all* plastic recycling *always* worked. 1/
@PamMTSpace Sending good energy. Cherish the colleagues who are beside you and keep punching, you are a fabulous warrior and we see what you are doing Pam!
I feel the need to speak out about some of the things happening in this local arts community (a thread 🧵) - I know if I do, I will get thrown under the bus exactly as my predecessor @MajdiBouMatar was. I am already expending energy fielding attempts at discrediting and... (1/6)
Today the @IEA released its latest World Energy Outlook. For the first time ever, there is no scenario that sees continued, long-term growth of *any* fossil fuel, including natural gas.

@jdragsky I'm appreciate how your breakdown points to what AI is giving us: a view of ourselves through a particular, softly-randomized digital mirror. It shows us our acquisitive colonial gaze. It will, in drawing across cultural traditions, erase the distinctions among them. That's us.
49 Palestinians, including 17 children, were killed during the three-day Israeli assault on Gaza from August 5–7, 2022. Read a profile of each life that was lost. https://t.co/dT6HCM86Sc
Nearly nine years after the OPP subjected dozens of migrant farmworkers to a DNA sweep, we have a ruling from the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario: the police discriminated against them on the basis of their race, skin colour, and place of origin. 1/6
