@mtracey I’m in Iowa and February of 2025 we had at least two week of lows below zero. And highs in single digits. A few days it didn’t even get above zero. Also, been in the 90s with extreme humidity. It randomly gets hot in winter too. March of 2026 we had a day where it was 95.
Artemis II has reached its maximum distance from Earth.
On the far side of the Moon, 252,756 miles away, Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy have now traveled farther from Earth than any humans in history and now begin their journey home. Before they left, they said they hoped this mission would be forgotten, but it will be remembered as the moment people started to believe that America can once again do the near-impossible and change the world.
Congratulations to this incredible crew and the entire NASA team, our international and commercial partners, but this mission isn’t over until they’re under safe parachutes, splashing down into the Pacific.
The murder of Charlie Kirk is a double tragedy. The first is a man’s life cut short, his friends and family bereft, his voice stilled. The second is that the costs of speaking up and speaking out have now risen dramatically. Not just democracy but civilization falters when people become afraid to express themselves or become the public face and voice of an idea. In a civilized society, speaking up and speaking out should not make you fear for your life. In that sense, this death is an act of terror. It makes every thoughtful public figure who writes and speaks worry that they might be next. That this happened to someone who loved to engage in calm debate makes the whole thing even sadder.
The accrued interest on the national debt now exceeds $1 trillion a year—more than we spend on national defense
And yet Congress continues to add to the debt at an astounding rate of $2 trillion per year—with our national debt growing faster than our economy
Unless we turn this around quickly, our debt and deficit will increasingly threaten our ability to fund the basic operations of government
But have no fear, these massive deficits are “essential”—that is, they play an essential role in Congress’s ability to avoid making difficult decisions while “getting things done” (i.e., spending more money), which seems to be the prime directive of The Uniparty™️
This harms hardworking Americans—especially the poor, who are hit hardest by the invisible, highly regressive tax this inevitably creates (in the form of inflation)
Meanwhile, big spenders in Congress—in both parties—forge ahead, knowing well that the media will praise them for voting to spend more, and relentlessly criticize anyone who wants to cut … well … basically anything
No amount of media praise directed at politicians can provide moral justification for the immense harm that this cruel, vicious cycle inflicts on hardworking Americans
The current social security trust fund will be insolvent by 2032 if nothing changes. Either raise taxes or cut benefits. Ironically, in early 2000s there was a bill that would allow parts of the trust fund be invested in equities like every pension program in America
THERE ARE 2.9 TRILLION DOLLARS IN THE SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUND. THIS IS WHAT TRUMP, MUSK, AND THE GOP ARE AFTER. THIS IS WHY THEY WANT TO DISMANTLE SOCIAL SECURITY. THIS IS MONEY WE TAXPAYERS HAVE CONTRIBUTED WITH EVERY PAYCHECK SINCE WE FIRST BEGAN WORKING. THIEVES!
@SarahforIowa Im a public school teacher in Iowa. I believe my taxes will go up if the job and tax cuts of 2017 are allowed to expire. Also will have to itemize my deductions. Which is no fun. I love having a 15,000 standardize deduction. From what I can tell spending is the biggest problem!
