@TheBIGJake111@EWErickson Agreed 💯. Although you can always wait for the kiddie tax to expire (age 24 for sure, or before if they enter the workforce earlier). Their tax bracket will still likely be the lowest in their lifetime at that point.
Returns on any investment in the Trump Accounts grow tax free until retirement - that is a big differentiating factor between opening a simple brokerage account.
Also a few points of order: 1. The government literally issues your child’s social security number. Do you think they don’t have it? Also I’m pretty sure I had to provide my kids’ socials when I signed up for their Roth IRAs through Fidelity. This is no different.
2. You give the government control of a massive amount of your hard earned money (income taxes) and by and large, they do a piss poor job of stewarding it. That’s why the Trump Accounts are a good thing - you’re investing your hard earned money in real companies (via mutual funds) that actually produce something of value and are therefore intrinsically valuable.
I don’t see why anyone thinks this is some major political thing one way or the other. It’s just another avenue to help set your kids up for success.
Oof, you’re special. Yes, there are caps on annual 529 contributions (Google is your friend). You can also only rollover $35k to a Roth from a 529. So somewhat high caps on contributions and rollover, but caps nonetheless. Look it up. No shade on the 529s btw. Great program but the Trump Accounts are a nice complement if mom, dad or grandma wants to pass along some additional $ to your kids that isn’t designated for education.
Correct - there’s a cap on what you can convert. Additionally, there’s a cap on annual contributions to a 529 and a Roth. The $5k max on the new Trump Accounts is on top of those contributions and does not require the child to have earned money by working, allowing family members to contribute to the child’s retirement right after they’re born, instead of waiting until they earn lawnmowing money at 12.
@PaulJErdman@elonmusk Excited for you! You’ll never go back to a non-EV. Look into Tesla energy, too, if you have a choice in your power provider. We pay $15/mo per vehicle for unlimited charging between midnight and noon each day. I don’t know anyone else paying only $15/month for fuel.
@NYMag I’m so grateful I un-propagandized myself from garbage like this in time to have three beautiful children. You crazy, miserable leftists almost had me there with this crap. And it was almost too late.
