📢 #NewPublication: A new review examining heat stress and kidney health has been published in @Nature Reviews Nephrology.

📊 It found that people exposed to heat stress in simulated and occupational settings reliably show evidence of kidney injury. Large-scale studies also show that more frequent heatwave exposure is associated with accelerated decline in kidney function.

📢 #NewPublication: A secondary analysis of the international AGITG TOPGEAR phase III trial has been published in the European Journal of Cancer.

💡The study examined treatment and outcomes among adults aged 70 years or older undergoing perioperative treatment for resectable gastric or gastro-oesophageal junction cancer.

📊 The analysis found that older participants enrolled in TOPGEAR achieved comparable oncological outcomes to younger participants, while surgical outcomes and complication rates were similar across age groups. Older participants required more frequent treatment modifications, and those receiving chemotherapy alone experienced higher haematological toxicity.

Congratulations to Professor @RachaelMorton12, Director of Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment at Sydney Clinical Trials Centre, who has received a $2,836,100 @nhmrc Investigator Grant commencing in 2027.

Her funded project is titled: ‘Embedding economics for equitable and cost-effective kidney care’.

Earlier this month, we marked the completion of Phase 1 of the Enhancing Participation of First Nations Peoples in Cancer Clinical Trials project.

Led by Professor Daniel Steffens within the Surgical & Complex Intervention Trials portfolio, the project aims to identify barriers and enablers to participation in cancer clinical trials and develop a culturally appropriate, community-led co-design intervention to enhance participation of First Nations peoples.

A special moment was the presentation of two Sydney Swans Indigenous guernseys signed by Adam Goodes, which will be displayed at RPA and CTC as a symbol of our commitment to equitable cancer care 🤝

📢 #NewPublication: The results of a translational research study from the international ASCOLT trial of aspirin in patients with colorectal cancer has been published in @TheLancet @eBioMedicine.

💡This Australian-led study examined whether aspirin might significantly reduce the risk of colorectal cancer returning in patients with specific molecular changes in their tumour - PIK3CA gene mutation or high levels of an inflammation-related protein COX-2.
