NEWS: X recently replaced Smyte, an internal tool that detected when accounts posted identical or closely related media.

Smyte streamlined the process of spotting similar media across various accounts however was expensive and ran on Google’s servers.

The current substitute tool may not recognize media with slight variations. The current tool is less expensive and runs on prem.

This new tools limitations may make it harder in combating organized disinformation efforts, where a multitude of fake profiles disseminate the same content.
