@BobbyScott@HouseDemocrats This is a bit of an integrity strike to push this thru as "good for all Americans" when provisions in the bill will all but eliminate the ability for #freelancers to work - that's 1/3 of American workers. It's a flawed bill but #Congress insisting on ignorance as it's MO. #PROact
I heard two points repeated again and again in today's #PROAct debate. @GOP says it's a union giveaway, @TheDemocrats say it will fix income inequality.
The thing is, the ABC Test in CA's #AB5 didn't do either of those things. Zero unions formed, thousands of ICs lost income.
Apparently, numerous freelance writers have received this unsolicited email from #PROAct supporters.
Here's an edited version. Sorry about leaving in so many of the original's typos. We ran out of red ink.
☎️ Keep calling your lawmakers. It's working.
#FightForFreelancers
Tell me again how the #PROAct isn't anything at all like California's #AB5.
"Similar legislation was enacted in California in 2019, and pushback resulted in numerous exemptions being added in 2020. We can expect to see the same at the federal level."

"If the #PROAct passes, the ABC test will not protect me as a worker. It will harm me. It will derail my career and drastically reduce my income. And it will do the same for millions of other Americans in the many lines of work I've mentioned."

I warn my Twitter followers that things will get strident here for a bit. The fight over the federal anti-freelancer law the #PROAct is on now in Congress. Millions of us who work for ourselves are affected. It’s also a free-expression issue for writers & artists
MUST be stopped
The @Freelancers_USA FB group just got several hundred new members, so I checked the stats.
With @StenyHoyer saying #PROAct will get a vote next week, this is who is terrified their careers will be destroyed.
