Wherever you are, the goal post is always 10 yards down the field:
If you develop a mindset "If I just accomplish ___, THEN I'll arrive," you're in for a rude awakening.
There is no arriving. The goal is the path and the path is the goal. The sooner you realize this the better.
Happiness is neither a good nor reliable goal to strive for. It is unrealistic to feel happy all of the timeโeven if so much of our culture tells you otherwise. Better is to strive for meaning, mastery, and belonging, and let periodic happiness be a byproduct of those pursuits.
It is easy to show up when you are at your best and everything is clicking.
It is hard to show up when you are in a hole and the current is going against you.
Everyone can do the former. But it's the latter that has a huge impact on long-term performance and success.
Forgiving yourself is one of the hardest things to do. It is also one of the most important. We all make mistakes. We are human. But your mistakes donโt define you. How you get back up and carry on does.
Good night moon.
The real secret of world-class performers isn't the daily routines that they develop, but that they stick to themโthat they show up, even when they don't feel like it.
Common barriers on the path to progress and how to overcome them:
๐๏ธ Feels lonely --> find others on a similar path and be vulnerable
๐๏ธ No motivation --> show up, start anyways; mood follows action
๐๏ธ Exhausted --> stress + *rest* = growth
๐๏ธ Self-doubt --> welcome to the club
What we're sold: You are not enough. Do (and buy) all this stuff and then you'll be enough, maybe even live forever.
The truth: You are enough, even though you may not feel like it. It's okay, most of us are that way. It is hard to be a human. The secret is there is no secret.
Go outside, do real things, do things that have tangible results, talk to people from all walks of life, go beyond the superficial & have deep conversations.
Too many people lose their minds on the internet. Many very intelligent folks. It's crazy to watch and a concerning trend
A vital ingredient in life: Have some clear your mind time.
Mine is running. No phone, music, devices. Just me, alone with my thoughts, in nature.
Clear your mind time = Space where your mind can drift and wander freely. It's not drawn to or distracted by technology.
