Those who claim that caste discrimination does not exist are living in some other world.
UPA Government led by Manmohan Singh brought UGC regulations against caste discrimination in 2012. Now in 2026, revised regulations have been introduced after the Higher Education Committee of Indian Parliament, submitted a detailed report calling for action against discrimination.
Supreme Court in petitions filed by the mothers of Payal Tadvi and Rohith Vemula, also directed UGC to frame strong rules to address discrimination.
We must collectively ensure that caste, gender, or any form of discrimination is not tolerated on campuses, and that concrete steps are taken to ensure equity.
