@ActonInstitute@drantbradley Really good and, in some ways, heart-breaking article, both for the people caught in these situations and for the church that has been MIA for too many folks like “Jay” and “Brie”.
Tony Campolo passed away today.
He was 89 years old.
He was one of the most gifted preachers I have ever heard.
If you have a few minutes, listen to him tell the story of throwing a birthday party for a prostitute in Hawaii.
It's worth your time.
"It took six months of conversations and intellectual acrobatics with a priest and a lifetime of searching for him to get to that question, the one question that sits in our chest just below our heart to the left of our sternum."

Jesus left strategic Judea to travel north to Galilee. God is no more respecter of places than he is of people. Wherever God has you is very significant. Sometimes, when we think too strategically we miss Him and his work
Deep things happen in out-of-the way, unimpressive places
We must change the scorecard in our churches for success from great services & large gatherings, to a deep transformational discipleship for every single person in our church.
It is God’s time for the church to redo her scorecard for success #ehdiscipleship
When Jesus renewed Peter’s call, He did not ask, “Do you love the church?” Or “Do you love your city?” Or even, “Do you love my teaching?” He said, “Do you love me?”
For all who are weary, trying to muster up the strength to keep serving or leading or giving…start with Jesus.
"...human beings have needs that can only be described as spiritual." Good article. Good insights for those of us in the church.

Had coffee today with a counselor who attends our church. Part of the convo was his observation about why “doom-scrolling” causes so much anxiety— it introduces us to problems beyond the scope of our agency.
When our awareness outpaces our agency, we are left with anxiety.
Regarding small churches and small communities:
"No matter how much one may love the world as a whole, one can live fully in it only by living responsibly in some small part of it."
--Wendell Berry
Hey small church pastor (me included) you are serving your church well in a difficult advent. Just because you aren’t doing what big churches are doing doesn’t mean you aren’t serving your people well.
You don’t need a drive through nativity or light display to celebrate Jesus.
