Boulder Police Officers Arrest Man On Multiple Charges of Assault Using a Chain

Boulder Police have arrested a 28-year-old man believed to be connected to a series of assaults and threats reported between June 26 and June 27.

On June 26 at 11:22 a.m., Boulder Police officers responded to a report of a woman being assaulted by a male wielding a chain near 13th and Canyon. Between 11:26 and 11:36 a.m., additional calls were received describing similar incidents involving a suspect matching the same description – this time near 16th and Pearl Street.  The suspect fled the area on a bicycle prior to the police arriving.

A further report came in at 12:05 p.m. from the 4800 block of Baseline Road. Later that evening, two more victims were identified in connection with the same suspect.

The suspect is described to have used a metal chain, similar to those used for securing bicycles or gates. Police have recovered multiple chains that the suspect had in his possession.

Between 11 a.m, on Thursday and the time of the suspect’s arrest at 4:24 p.m. on Friday, eight individuals – seven women and one man – were identified as victims. In some cases, the suspect reportedly struck victims with the chain; in others, the chain was swung in a threatening manner and hit a vehicle but did not make contact with a person. No serious injuries have been reported and none of the victims were transported by emergency medical services.

Officers have the suspect in custody. His name will be released at a later date due to the need for further interviews with victims. He is being charged with the following:
•Second Degree Assault,
•Attempted Second Degree Assault,
•Felony Menacing,
•Criminal Mischief

Police continue to investigate this incident, and additional charges may be filed. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Boulder Police Detectives at 303-441-1974. This incident is being investigated under Boulder Police report number 25-05785

As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
