On Friday, Liberty University's twin-engine turboprop King Air flew from Lynchburg, Virginia to Augusta, Georgia. This past weekend was also the Masters Tournament. ⛳️ After the tournament ended, the aircraft returned to Lynchburg.
Liberty University explains its aircraft usage policy on Form 990 documents filed with the IRS: "personal travel is either reimbursed or treated as a taxable benefit."
The tax code treats personal flights taken on board privately owned aircraft as a fringe benefit. The Standard Industry Fare Level tax applying to these flights is updated twice annually with the new rates disclosed in Internal Revenue Bulletins published by the IRS.
