1 thing I took away from this course was that we take lots of modern technology we have for granted- things like touchless payment, streaming services, & even Zoom. Things we deem as "normal" in our everyday lives may be effecting major change in other areas of society! #dcim353b
@vedantp_17 Hi Vedant, well said. I think a lot of society's drive for innovation has stemmed from people wanting to find ways to connect and communicate with each other. Digital technology plays a huge role in interpersonal relationships, whether we like it or not #dcim353b
@jen_appell_ Hey Jen, this is a great article to bring up. I feel like it'd be almost impossible in today's social climate to discuss emerging technologies without addressing the pandemic's impact #dcim353b
@MelanieRutgers Hey Melanie! Disruptive tech is consistently changing the business landscape, so it's necessary to know how companies can stay flexible. This will be helpful to several people's paper topics; I'll definitely be going back to look over that article! #dcim353b
#dcim353b The "digital divide" mentioned in Week 4 could be important to remember; access to high-speed internet and new tech varies across different countries, and can affect the scale and rate at which a certain technology could be considered disruptive.
@jen_appell_ Hi, Jen! 3D printing sounds really intriguing; I've mostly heard about it used for artistic purposes or the medical field, so I'm interested in seeing how it affects the merchandising industry. #dcim353b
@MelanieRutgers#dcim353b AI is a really interesting topic! Lately, it seems like AI is becoming an increasingly prevalent tool, so I think you'll have plenty of content for your research!
@TripleJ06677775 This is a great idea! Twitch has become really popular, and streamers have branched out from just gaming streams. I know some of my artist friends use it to grow their audiences. #dcim353b
#dcim353b For my EDTP, I'll be researching virtual reality. VR has shown to be promising in many career fields, and one that particularly interests me is how VR is used in the entertainment industry!
@MelanieRutgers#dcim353b I wonder if online dating will remain the "dating norm" even after the pandemic has subsided. These circumstances seem to have opened a lot of people's minds to the idea of dating online.
@XavierRU22 Great point- the pandemic has definitely eliminated the social, communal aspect of going out to eat. Even with outdoor dining, eating at a restaurant has become less of a social activity. #dcim353b
@jen_appell_ Hi Jen, great point. Especially with the pandemic going on, social media has become a valuable, almost essential tool for keeping in touch with friends and family, and for forming new connections. #dcim353b
#dcim353b Tech like augmented reality is changing the way people are buying makeup, which is typically a personal and almost intimate experience for shoppers. This article describes how AR and VTO (virtual try-on) is altering shopping + self-expression.

@XavierRU22#dcim353b This is a really good point. I think sometimes we forget to think of everyday things like streaming services as "pandemic tech," but they're actually changing the ways we consume media, especially since the future of movie theaters is uncertain.
#DCIM353b One use of tech during the pandemic that I found cool is the Ratatouille musical written entirely by TikTok users, then eventually streamed live by famous performers. Cool how remote tech + the pandemic were able to breed this kind of creativity.
