Trion update for today:

Our beta testers sent us a lot of mobile feedback, so today is making Trion feel great on a phone.

Shipped:
• New Charts / Trade tabs, so the chart gets the whole screen and the order ticket gets its own
• The price chart now fills about three quarters of the screen on an iPhone
• Faster mobile loads: the options page ships half the code, and the perp chart opens about 30% faster
• Deposit and Withdraw right from Portfolio, plus a one-tap fix when your wallet is on the wrong network

In progress:
• The Trion iOS app.

The CMPT-USD perpetual is still in closed beta. Thanks to everyone testing and sending feedback. Keep it coming.

We shipped a backend upgrade to the Trion exchange engine this morning.

Upgrades:
• Order confirmations are more than 2x faster in our load tests, and the slowest ones are nearly 4x faster.
• Steadier under pressure. When traffic spikes, response times stay tight instead of piling up.
• Restarts recover about 2x faster.

We will continue to beta test over the weekend. I have some new guys testing this morning.

GPU compute is one of the biggest markets in the world, and it still has no price everyone trusts.

We want to fix that at Trion, and we want to do it with the industry.

At Trion we're building CMPT, an open benchmark for what GPU compute actually costs. We are counting what people actually paid, not what's listed.

That needs data from the people who run the GPUs: clouds, marketplaces, brokers, resellers. We'd rather license it properly than scrape it. So I'm reaching out to the owners directly.

What's in it for providers:
• your real prices count in the benchmark
• attribution and a fair data-licence deal
• free index access for you and your customers
• a say in the methodology before it's the standard
• later, a way for your customers to lock in compute costs

A benchmark is only worth something if people can trust it. So we'll get everything independently audited: the index methodology, the data pipeline and the smart contracts. And we'll publish the results.

Every commodity that grew up got a trusted price: oil, power, freight, etc. Compute is next bet. The benchmark should be built by the people who make the market.

In this video @JohnArnold is right: compute will only trade like a real commodity once there's either a standard product with deep liquidity or an index the industry trusts. Both are hard. That's the problem we're working on at Trion.

What we have today:

• CMPT, an index of what it costs to rent one NVIDIA H100 GPU for one hour. Instead of indexing "compute" in general, it prices one standard unit.

• It's built from a panel of GPU cloud providers and marketplaces, including executed rental prices from the Akash network.

• Our price oracle publishes every CMPT price on-chain on Robinhood Chain, together with a cryptographic hash of the exact inputs behind it.

• CMPT-USD, a perpetual contract on that price, is in beta.

What we're testing in the background:

• A more reliable way to calculate the index: one that holds steady when a provider's data goes down or goes stale, brings providers in and out gradually instead of all at once, and screens out one-off price spikes until they're confirmed.

What's next:

• A separate product: an S&P 500 for GPUs. A broader index that weights each provider by how much capacity it actually rents out, with caps so no single provider can dominate. The hard part is that almost nobody publishes those numbers, so building a weighting the market can trust is what we're working on.

• We know this is hard, and nobody has fully solved it yet. That's exactly why we want to be at the cutting edge of it: building in the open, testing new methods, and helping set the standards this industry will run on. We have ideas, we're testing them, and we're going to figure it out.

• I'm happy to be taking this on. I have more ideas up my sleeve.

“Compute is not a commodity where one data center is providing the same product as another data center.”

“You either have to deliver into a certain product that has a lot of buyers and a lot of sellers… or you need some type of index that the industry trusts.”

“There just aren’t that many short-term deals. Transparency into those is difficult.”

“The distinctions between the chips and the design of the data center and all the specific needs is just different.”

“Trying to either come up with the physical delivery mechanism or the index that everybody trusts to be right is really hard.”
