@DavidAyerMovies I’ve been off Twitter for months (sorry, “X” now) being sick of the negativity, but I’m popping in to say just one thing after just seeing your podcast with Bernthal. David, you’re an incredible filmmaker and person. A true inspiration. Truly, thank you.
@jay_trousdale@ComicBook @wbpictures What’s this source material? There’s been hundreds of different unique adaptations of the same character from hundreds of different writers and for over 80 years for many. Nobody is pissy that the characters aren’t the “source.” They’re pissy it isn’t their one fav of hundreds.
@CutSchumacher@ThePlaylistNews I don’t think assemblies are even screened for test audiences. I think the workprint shown at Smith’s may be an earlier cut with scenes still needed to be shot, and Preview Cut One may be the more fine-tuned cut from Schumacher (more scenes, better editing, sound, score, etc).
@SuperHeroHype@CutSchumacher So many conflicting reports lmao. @EpicFilmGuys said it’s 2h 16m (as did others who saw the on-screen time-counter at Smith’s screening). Early 2020-2021 reports put it at 2h 45 - 2h 50m. Smith and Joe Black then said it was around 2h 30m. Can someone give a legit confirmation?
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology Lmao nobody is going in circles here. You’re been making inaccurate statements and I’ve been correcting you. Now you’re bailing cause you’ve been proven wrong again and again. So ok bud, goodbye and have a good night.
@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology In the Schumacher Cut, Bruce has flashes beginning at the bank heist, and even at Wayne Enterprises later in the film. His trauma and struggle with duality is a full fleshed-out plotline, not a side-piece that serves ONLY as a simple reflection of Dick Grayson like in the TC.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology The trauma is not a prevalent plot line in the theatrical cut, don’t lie
Lmao. His first flashback comes after the death of the Grayson’s and was edited to reflect Bruce seeing himself in Grayson. The focus is on Dick. The repressed memories plot-line in the TC is thin.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology Should have prefaced “most,” that’s my bad. But the point stands that extended cuts aren’t director’s preferred cuts. Jackson has outspokenly stated that he prefers the theatrical cuts and that’s why his extended aren’t “director’s cuts.” The TC of BF isn’t Joel’s preferred cut.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology Where’s your evidence that he didn’t fight it? Clearly he was unhappy about it. But he doesn’t have final say, studio does. And deleting a whole plothole about Bruce’s guilt and trauma, which his entire arc in the film, is significant.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology It’s public knowledge that the theatrical cut isn’t Joel’s preferred cut. Joel’s been outspoken about that, even in the Blu-ray commentary of where he talked about the deleted Bruce trauma scenes that were removed because of the studio wanted it to be shorter and lighter.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology You’re right, an extended cut is extra footage that isn’t the director’s intent or vision. The director isn’t even involved in those, those are pure studio release. The SC isn’t just an extended cut because the extra footage IS his vision that HE had edited in with Denis Virkler.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology Again, the argument you’re making is that it’s not Schumacher’s “true” cut because it’s not the final cut. We already know that. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not “his” cut. He was there in the editing process with Dennis Virkler, and they were editing based on Joel’s vision.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology That doesn’t mean that the Schumacher Cut isn’t his cut. It’s not Random Bob’s cut. Schumacher was there in the editing process with Dennis Virkler. Just because it’s not his final finished cut (as we always knew it wasn’t) doesn’t mean it’s not his cut.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology A Bruce Wayne having nightmares throughout Schumacher’s film, tormented by the guilt and trauma of his parents death until he’s set free by the truth of the red book, all that makes for darkER material than the theatrical cut. Again, fact.
@PoliticsWPaxton@CutSchumacher Really? Insider info from 2021 placed it at 2h 50m, Kevin Smith said it was 2h 30m - 2h 35m on his podcast, and other viewers at the screening said it was 2h 16m. Like, those are pretty big differences. Did nobody time it or check the times from when it started and ended?
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology It is his cut, and it’s not a full-on assembly cut. Assembly cuts can be nearly 4 hours for most films. The Schumacher Cut, as presented by Kevin Smith, is apparently 2h 16m (w/out credits) according to viewers at the screening. It has temp score and VFX. That’s not an assembly.
@rwatkins829@EpicFilmGuys@BatmanAnthology You’re misconstruing “darker” with “dark.” Batman Forever was never going to be a “dark” film. “Lighter” was a mandate from WB from the get-go after the backlash to Batman Returns. But Schumacher’s vision was ALWAYS “darker” COMPARED to the highly altered theatrical cut. Fact.
