All he has to do was just say “I think fans of the zombie genre and games are going to find something to love here.” From the beginning instead of saying a bunch of nonsense that got people irritated.
And let’s address that elephant in the room. For everyone trying to pin this on the fans of the franchise, why do we need to treat people being paid millions of dollars with kid gloves for fear of scaring them off? They’re doing a job many would bend over backwards for, so why should I just accept whatever it is that they slap down with no questions?
Are we gonna huddle around a plumber when we pay them just to change a pipe under the sink and they decide to rip out the whole system for no reason other than he just wanted to?
Are we going to protect the mechanic that replaces your car’s engine when you just wanted an oil change because “this is what I think you need”?
Even as a writer, why the hell are we just excusing away anything artists do as “their vision” and how we can’t “scare them away” when they’re being paid more money than any of us will earn in our lifetimes?
They’re not your friends, they’re not people who need to be protected. They’re adults who know what they’re doing, and thus should be treated that way.
If this was wholly Zach’s original IP, then I’d say there’s some justification in letting him do what he wants, but he was hired to do a Resident Evil movie, and believe it or not, working on adapting an IP that is not your own doesn’t mean you can just do whatever and slap the label of the franchise on it.
i genuinely think Zach Cregger is trying his best to make the best film he can, but give me a break, you can't blame the fans for being worried when every time a new interview comes out we get quotes like this.
these are the direct sources:
Hey guys i'm making a movie based on (thing) but god isn't (thing) just SOOOO fucking stupid im SOOOO much smarter than the people who made (thing) so im gonna fix all the STUPID BULLSHIT ABOUT IT!!!!!
While I’m excited for the film….. all this constant info about it coming out is pissing me off 💀 like can we wait for the movie to come out before talking more about it? Feels like our expectations are being set so high just to disappoint.
Zach Cregger says he chose to keep his ‘RESIDENT EVIL’ movie as grounded as possible.
“I’m not gonna have a gigantic jacked dude in a trench coat because I’m like ‘where did the coat come from?’… the T-Virus does all sorts of cool mutations that's enough.”
