Somewhere in southern Spain right now, a pig is quietly turning itself into something close to olive oil.

This is the black Iberian pig, the pata negra, named for its dark little hooves. For most of the year it lives an ordinary pig's life. Then, around October, the acorns begin to fall, and the whole arrangement turns faintly ridiculous.

The pigs are loosed into the dehesa, an ancient oak woodland sprawling across millions of hectares of Spain and Portugal, with a hectare or two of forest given over to each animal. There they spend the autumn and winter doing essentially nothing but roaming beneath the holm oaks and eating acorns. Up to ten kilos a day. They walk miles to find them, and pack on forty-odd kilos in a single season.

Here is the lovely part. The acorn is loaded with oleic acid, the very same fat that makes olive oil famous. So the pig converts the fruit of the oak straight into soft, golden, olive-grade fat, marbled all the way through itself. A four-legged olive press, fattening on a forest floor.

That fat becomes jamón ibérico de bellota, cured patiently for years and sold for a small fortune.

The most coveted ham on earth is, when you get down to it, just a pig allowed to be a pig, in a wood, eating what falls from the trees.

And the wood only survives because the pig makes it worth keeping.

Questo processo è naturale e non ha assolutamente nulla a che fare con il cambiamento climatico o le emissioni di gas serra.

L’Europa ha visto una quantità insolita di questi eventi di calore estremo dal 2019, ma la maggior parte delle altre aree del globo no.

La spiegazione più probabile è l'aumentata radiazione solare assorbita al suolo a causa della ridotta copertura nuvolosa stratiforme a bassa e media quota (maggiore soleggiamento), parte della quale è probabilmente dovuta alla ridotta concentrazione di aerosol atmosferici derivante dalle rigorose normative anti-inquinamento dell’UE.

L’aumento complessivo della “temperatura media globale” (che influisce principalmente sulle minime notturne) ha poco o niente a che fare con questo evento.

Si tratta principalmente di sistemi meteorologici in movimento. Quando hai un sistema caotico con due fluidi turbolenti che interagiscono tra loro (l’atmosfera e l’oceano), possono succedere cose folli.

Naturalmente queste spiegazioni non le riceverai mai dalle testate sensazionalistiche dei media e dei tg mainstream.
Sarebbe opportuno domandarsi perché si chiamano mezzi di "informazione"!

Penny auction at foreclosed Michigan farm (1936). At penny auctions farmers would conspire to offer low bids, resulting in a low return to the creditor. The final buyer would then return the property to the destitute farmer. Hangman nooses served as a warning to squirrelly bidders.

This haunting photograph from 1936 captures a penny auction at a foreclosed farm in Michigan, one of the most defiant and ingenious acts of resistance to emerge during the Great Depression. When banks repossessed farms after families could no longer meet their mortgage payments, local communities often took matters into their own hands.

Farmers would gather in large groups and agree beforehand to bid only pennies on each item — from livestock to land — driving the auction prices down to virtually nothing. The final “buyer,” usually a trusted neighbor, would then return the property to the original owner, ensuring the family could remain on their land.

The nooses seen hanging in the background weren’t decorative; they served as chilling warnings to outsiders who might attempt to outbid the crowd. These were not empty threats — solidarity and survival left little room for betrayal.

The penny auctions became powerful symbols of rural unity and defiance. They weren’t just about saving one farm, but about preserving a way of life, one desperate bid at a time.

By 1933, more than 200,000 farms were foreclosed across the Midwest, sparking organized movements like the Farmer’s Holiday Association, which fought to halt foreclosures entirely.

After the war ended, it was revealed that Naira was the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the US, and her story was fabricated by the PR agency Hill & Knowlton, hired by the Kuwaiti government. During the first Iraq war over 135,000 Iraqis were killed.
