From preschool_vibes_ on IG: “Explore the engaging world of multisensory learning at our letter I table! At this station, students dive into a variety of hands-on activities designed to reinforce their understanding of the letter I. Starting with a coloring page, they progress to using magnetic bingo chips to trace the letter's shape, which they can magically clear with a magnetic wand. I teach that the letter I, consisting of one big line and two little lines, is a vowel with two sounds—I as in igloo and I as in ice, where vowels can say their own names. For fine motor skills enhancement, students decorate the letter I using seasonal erasers, reinforcing the letter sound with each placement: 'I says I.' They engage in a letter recognition activity by circling all I's in a specially chosen poem during large group readings, enhancing both letter recognition and visual discrimination. This poem is placed in a dry erase pocket for easy cleanup. To further tactile learning, I've prepared tactile letter cards with raised glue dots along each letter, providing a textured guide for tracing. As the holidays approach, our sensory trays get a festive twist: students practice writing I in trays filled with sprinkles and a mix of cinnamon and sugar, learning to use their pointer finger like a pencil. This method not only helps in retaining the shape and sound of the letter I but also keeps the learning fresh and exciting by varying the sensory materials each week. Join us at our letter table and see how we turn learning into a delightful, sensory-rich experience!”
Lets put vocabulary instruction at the forefront of instruction. Have Ss choose the word that is the antonym of the other 3 in each row. Have Ss group words that are associated. What else could you do? How would you group these words? Ponder this. My thoughts follow.

I spy the HCDSB sound wall along with Heggerty phonemic awareness skill building. What a combination. Listen to the students manipulation/replacing sounds in words! #HCDSBliteracy
With only a few weeks left this school year, and beautiful days coming up, why not take learning outside? The LRC has many books and kits that can be used outside and/or support outdoor learning activities. There’s still time to borrow resources from the LRC for June! @HCDSB
