There is a zip file on my drive with my oldest friend's name on it
i haven’t unzipped it in five years
we didn't have a massive falling out
we just… stopped
one day the replies got shorter, and then they stopped altogether
but before they ghosted, they sent me an archive
“our old stuff,” the message said
i never opened it
i was too angry at first, then too sad
and eventually, just scared of the nostalgia

someone sent me a script for an @Arcium node recently
said it could run queries over encrypted files without ever unzipping them
"blind compute"
i didn't care about the cryptography
but there was always one thing i wondered about how it all ended
why they actually walked away

so i pointed the network at the locked archive
my hand felt heavy hitting enter
like standing outside their front door but refusing to knock

a few minutes later, the terminal returned an output
no files unzipped
no chat logs exposed
no old jokes dragging me back to the past
just one line extracted from a hidden text file deep inside:
“i’m drowning right now, and i need to figure myself out before i drag you down too”

that was it
no context
no proof
nothing extra
but a weight i’d carried for five years just… vanished

getting closure used to mean exposing everything
rummaging through old memories
picking open scabs just to see if they were healing

this felt different
like the protocol respected the space they needed to take
while giving me the answer i needed to hear

i haven’t unzipped that folder
and now, i know i never will

some things don’t need to be exposed to be understood
